🔐 Passwords

A login per site: the site, the email or username, and the password. Search finds one by site or username; copy, show, edit and delete sit on every row.

If you have set a PIN for locked notes, every password is encrypted with the same key and is only readable while the vault is open — close the app and nothing can read them back without the PIN. No PIN? The panel says so plainly and offers to set one, which encrypts everything you had already saved.

🔑 My Tokens

API keys in one place instead of scattered across notes: masked in the list, with copy and show on each row. Saving a name you already have replaces its key, so a rotated key is one save away. Both panels can be hidden from Settings → Layout → Sidebar.

📐 The sidebar folds

A thin line sits under templates, passwords, my tokens and the rest. Click it and the whole group rolls up so your tabs take the space; click it again and they come back — and it remembers which way you left it.

The tab rail has always been resizable and the setting has always defaulted on; nobody could see the 5px handle. It now carries a visible grip.

✨ What's new, with pictures

An update opens a short illustrated card for the things worth finding — including a moving one for the fold, because a control that folds cannot be explained by a still picture. Settings → About → What's new reopens it whenever you like.

• نوار کناری جمع می‌شود — زیر دکمه‌های پنل یک خط نازک هست؛ رویش کلیک کنی کل گروه جمع می‌شود و تب‌ها جایشان را می‌گیرند. عرض نوار تب‌ها هم همیشه قابل تغییر بوده و حالا دستگیره‌اش دیده می‌شود.
• تازه‌ها با عکس — بعد از هر آپدیت یک پنجره‌ی کوتاه با عکس (و یک تصویر متحرک برای همان خط جمع‌شونده) باز می‌شود. هر وقت خواستی از Settings ← About ← What's new دوباره بازش کن.

A small one: a new icon, and a theme that no longer drags a slow machine down.

🧩 New icon

PromptPad has its own mark now — a pair of brackets with a caret between them, the same brackets you write blanks with. It is on the taskbar, in the tray and on the installer.

If a pinned taskbar shortcut still shows the old icon, unpin it and pin it again: Windows keeps its own copy of the picture.

🐛 Fixed

• Nacre could bring a slow machine to its knees. It was the only theme still redrawing sixty times a second at full resolution — forty-seven wide iridescent bands stroked twice per frame, which is rasterisation work that never shows up in a JavaScript profile. It now runs at 15fps on a half-scale buffer like every other animated scene. Measured on a 1075×798 window: 33.3ms → 16.7ms median frame, and 79 → 0 dropped frames in 145. The other animated themes were swept the same way; none of them miss.

PromptPad 4.1.1 ⚡

A tune-up. Nothing here is new to learn — it is the same app, faster on a slow machine, smoother everywhere, and with a handful of things that were quietly broken now fixed.

⚡ Faster

The theme browser opens about seven times faster — 129.6ms → 19.4ms — and scrolls without dropping a frame. Seventy-six cards is roughly 2,400 nodes, and building them all before the pane could paint was the stutter you could feel. The first screenful is built at once and the rest during idle time, so it is already there by the time you scroll to it and nothing at all happens during the scroll.

Three scroll-driven versions came first and all three were worse. content-visibility: auto made the open fast by deferring each card's layout to the moment it came into view — which turned into fifteen dropped frames in a fast flick. What has to be fast is the open; the rest only has to be out of the way.

The thumbnails hold still and play only under the pointer. Seventy-six scenes running at once is a lot of motion to put in front of somebody who is trying to read the names, and on a slow machine it is the most expensive thing on screen at the moment you care least about it. Each card draws one frame and stops, seeded at a different moment so the grid does not look like one instant repeated. Idle now runs no animation frames at all.

Themes no longer flicker while you drag the window edge. Giving a canvas a width clears it, and these scenes redraw at 15fps, so after every resize event the canvas is black until the next tick — and a drag fires that event continuously. All 56 resize handlers now settle first: measured across a 26-step drag, 0 blank frames, down from most of them.

🎞️ Smoother

Settings panes fade in, buttons answer a press, rail buttons and tabs lift under the pointer, context menus grow from the corner they open at, and starring a theme pops the star.

All of it animates only transform and opacity — the two properties the compositor owns — so none of it re-runs layout or paint. That is the whole reason it is safe to add motion to an app meant to stay usable on a slow machine. Motion off in Settings still turns every bit of it off.

🎙️ Voice notes

Right-click a clip for a menu of its own: play it, record over it, save the audio, delete it. Deleting one used to mean putting the caret next to a token you cannot see and holding backspace over text you cannot see either. "Record over it" records first and swaps the clip only when the new one lands, so an abandoned recording leaves the note exactly as it was.

Fast Save records too. The clip is saved the moment you stop — no send to press afterwards, nothing to lose.

Clip lengths were reading Infinity:NaN. A WebM from MediaRecorder carries no duration in its header, so <audio>.duration is Infinity until the file has been seeked end to end — and Infinity is truthy, which is what made every duration || fallback in there quietly useless. Clips the app recorded itself now carry their own length.

💬 Fast Save

• Select more than one message: a tick on the bubble, Shift for a range, Ctrl+A, Escape to drop it, and Copy beside Delete. It behaved this way for Ctrl+click already, but nothing on screen ever said so.
• The recorder moved next to Send, where the other button that commits something lives — emoji, image and file all stage something for later.
• Bigger icons, and a gallery button that looks like a photograph instead of a phone's grid of apps.

🐛 Fixed

• Closing Settings dropped the background blur in one jump, a moment after the panel had already faded. Two causes: a rule of equal specificity sitting later in the file replaced the close animation with the open one, so animationend never fired; and backdrop-filter does not follow an element's opacity — it applies at full strength until the element leaves the layout, so it has to be animated itself. It now falls 3px → 1.96 → 0.78 → 0.02 in step with the fade.
• The Fast Save text box had a scrollbar in it before you had typed anything, and grew four lines tall after saving a note. Chromium counts the placeholder towards scrollHeight, and that one wrapped to four lines, so an empty box reported 97px of content in a 36px viewport.
• Every one of those auto-growing boxes was two pixels shorter than its own text. box-sizing is border-box, so an assigned height includes the borders while scrollHeight excludes them — a scrollbar that never went away, even with a single character typed.
• In a narrow window the Save button was pushed out of the composer and clipped away. Five 38px buttons and their gaps need 242px and none of them could shrink, so the text field was squeezed to nothing and the row overflowed: at the app's own 340px minimum the bar wanted 259px and had 170. Under about 430px wide there was no way to reach Save at all.
• The grey hint inside that box was being cut mid-word — it wanted 427px. It is shorter now, and says what Enter does.
• The composer's buttons were 34px against a 38px input on a bottom-aligned row, so the icons sat four pixels low.

• نرم‌تر — پنل‌های تنظیمات محو می‌شوند، دکمه‌ها به فشار جواب می‌دهند، دکمه‌های ریل زیر موس بالا می‌آیند، منوها از همان گوشه‌ای که باز می‌شوند رشد می‌کنند. همه‌اش فقط transform و opacity را متحرک می‌کند، پس هیچ‌کدام چیدمان یا رنگ‌آمیزی را دوباره اجرا نمی‌کند؛ خاموش کردن Motion در تنظیمات هنوز همه‌شان را خاموش می‌کند.
• یادداشت صوتی — روی کلیپ راست‌کلیک کن تا منوی خودش باز شود: پخش، ضبط دوباره روی همان، ذخیره‌ی فایل صدا، و حذف. داخل Fast Save هم می‌شود ضبط کرد و کلیپ همان لحظه‌ای که ضبط تمام می‌شود ذخیره می‌شود. طول کلیپ‌ها که Infinity:NaN نشان داده می‌شد درست شد.
• ذخیره‌ی سریع — چند پیام را با هم انتخاب کن: تیک روی حباب، Shift برای یک بازه، Ctrl+A، Escape برای رها کردن، و Copy کنار Delete. ضبط صدا رفت کنار دکمه‌ی ارسال، آیکون‌ها بزرگ‌تر شدند و دکمه‌ی گالری حالا شبیه یک عکس است.
• رفع اشکال — با بستن تنظیمات، بلور پس‌زمینه یک لحظه بعد یکهو می‌پرید. جعبه‌ی متن Fast Save پیش از آن‌که چیزی تایپ کنی اسکرول داشت و بعد از ذخیره چهار خط بلند می‌شد. در پنجره‌ی باریک دکمه‌ی ذخیره از ردیف بیرون می‌افتاد و زیر حدود ۴۳۰ پیکسل اصلاً راهی به آن نبود. متن راهنمای خاکستری داخل جعبه وسط کلمه بریده می‌شد.

PromptPad 4.1.0 — voice notes, video, and a fix for the typing bug

PromptPad 4.1.0 🎙️

Two new things to put in a note, and a bug that had been quietly stopping people from typing.

🎙️ Voice notes

Press Record and talk. The clip lands where the caret is — in the middle of a sentence if that is where you were — not on a line of its own. That is the whole point of them: a note can say something, then a recording, then carry on in the same breath.

Collapsed, a clip is about the width of a word, so a note with three of them in it still reads as a note. Hover one and the player slides out of its right edge.

Where you are in a clip stays yours. Moving the mouse away no longer stops it, and pausing halfway no longer throws the place away — only reaching the end clears it.

🎬 Video

A video goes into a note the way a picture does, and everything that already worked on pictures works on it: corner-drag to resize, right-click to save, click the magnifier to blow it up. The zoom view has a fullscreen button of its own.

🧪 Prompt Lab — select more than one

Click, Ctrl+click, Shift for a range, Ctrl+A for everything on screen, Escape to drop it. Then move the whole selection to another category in one go, or delete it. Filing a pile of prompts one at a time was the worst part of having a lot of them.

🐛 Fixed

• Typing would sometimes stop working until you quit and reopened the app. Deleting from the Prompt Lab put up a native confirm(), and this window is always-on-top and frameless — a combination Windows handles badly. The dialog can open behind the window with the renderer blocked waiting for a click nobody can reach, and even when it does close the window often never gets the keyboard back. It still looks focused, because it is painted over everything else. All sixteen native dialogs are now drawn inside the app and hand focus back to whatever had it.
• Toolbar buttons you could not reach. The row was overflow-x with the scrollbar hidden, so at the window's default width it wanted 1324px, had 541, and quietly parked the rest somewhere you could neither see nor scroll to. Whatever does not fit now moves into the ⌃ menu and comes back when you widen the window.
• …and that menu was being clipped out of existence. It sits above the status bar, which carries overflow: hidden for the focus-mode height animation, so the whole panel was cropped away — the arrow lit up, rotated, and showed nothing.
• Zooming a video showed a dark screen and nothing else — the overlay handed the filename to an <img>, which cannot decode it.
• Black Card's sheen died against the right-hand edge instead of sliding off it. A canvas gradient's colour stops must all sit inside [0,1], so a band half off the surface cannot be expressed and was being squashed flat against the end. The gradient line now runs past both ends of the surface.
• Snow Street '97 was showing Barrel Fire's picture in the theme browser — it had no card sketch of its own and fell through to the family default. It has its own street now: a lit shopfront, a lamp, a car, and weather blowing sideways.
• Character and token counts were being squeezed to 251 cha… · ~63 toke….

🎨 Small

• The old Voice button is now labelled Speech to text, so it is not confused with Record.
• The ⌃ menu opens with a bit of spring and its buttons arrive one after another; the arrow turns into a close cross rather than flipping upside down.

• آزمایشگاه پرامپت — چندتایی انتخاب کن (کلیک، Ctrl+click، Shift برای یک بازه، Ctrl+A برای همه) و بعد کل انتخاب را یک‌جا به دسته‌ی دیگر منتقل کن یا پاکش کن.
• رفع اشکال — گاهی تایپ کردن از کار می‌افتاد تا برنامه را می‌بستی و باز می‌کردی؛ علتش پنجره‌های تأیید سیستمی بود که حالا داخل خود برنامه کشیده می‌شوند. دکمه‌های نوار ابزار که بدون اسکرول‌بار جایی ناپیدا می‌ماندند حالا خودبه‌خود می‌روند داخل منوی ⌃. ذره‌بین روی ویدیو فقط صفحه‌ی تاریک نشان می‌داد. درخشش تم Black Card در لبه‌ی راست می‌مرد. و Snow Street ’97 تصویر Barrel Fire را نشان می‌داد.
• ریزه‌کاری — دکمه‌ی Voice قدیمی حالا Speech to text نام دارد تا با Record قاطی نشود.

PromptPad 4.0.0 — blocks, locked notes & 76 themes

PromptPad 4.0.0 ✨

The biggest release so far. Two new ways to write, a way to lock a note that actually encrypts it, and a theme collection that got out of hand.

➕ Add

• Blocks. Type @ and drop in a piece of prompt you keep rewriting — a persona, an output format, a set of rules, a step list. Save any selection as a block straight from the right-click menu. Four come seeded so the feature is not an empty box on first run.
• Slash commands. Type / for markdown and AI actions without taking your hands off the keyboard.
• Locked notes. Lock a tab with a PIN and it is encrypted on disk — AES-GCM with a PBKDF2-derived key, not hidden behind a flag. A locked note cannot be deleted until you unlock it, removing the lock asks for the PIN again, and you are given a recovery code when you set it. Settings has a reset that unlocks everything if you would rather start over.
• Placeholders grew up. Give one a list — [tone|warm, plain, poetic] — and it becomes a dropdown. Save a whole set of answers as a preset and refill a prompt in one click.
• A guide with pictures, in English and Persian, inside Settings. Nine topics, each with a screenshot of the thing it is describing.
• 76 themes, and a browser to find one in. Every card is the app in miniature with the theme actually running on it — Koi shows fish, Last Train shows a train, Telex shows punched tape.
  • Sorted by what drives them rather than by how elaborate they are: Dark, Light, Reactive (answers your keyboard), Nature, Machines, Nostalgia, Live (reads the real clock and your speakers), Sound, Playable, Luxury. Each category says in one line what it means.
  • Starred and Recommended sections, search across names and keywords, and a per-theme count on every filter.
• Nostalgia, a new family: places drawn the way 1997 hardware drew them — a low-resolution buffer, four or five colours per material, and ordered dithering between them. Barrel Fire, Last Train, Snow Street, Ferris Wheel, Bedroom, Harbour, and Alley, a snowy back street where a torch follows your caret.
• Themes react to the window. Drag PromptPad around and Tide sloshes — the water leans, overshoots, and rocks back, because it is a spring and not an animation.
• New fonts, and a switch for whether a theme is allowed to bring its own.

🎨 Polish

• Motion throughout — panels, tabs, cards, the settings pane. Focus mode now folds the chrome away instead of blinking it out of existence. One switch in Settings turns all of it off.
• The keyboard themes use real recordings now, not synthesis. Twelve different keystrokes, cut from public-domain recordings, so two presses in a row never sound the same.
• Rain was rebuilt. The old one laid down two hundred audible drops a second, which is a rattle rather than weather; real rain is thousands of impacts too quiet to pick out, and a handful of close ones. It is also considerably quieter.
• A fresh install now starts on Mono rather than Forest.
• Buttons squared off, and the settings tabs fit on one line.

🐛 Fix

• The updater opened GitHub instead of updating. Two click handlers were bound to the same button, so one press both re-checked and opened a browser.
• The AI actions menu stayed open behind a fresh right-click. It closed on a click, and a right-click is not one — it fires contextmenu and mousedown and never a click, so you could end up with two menus on screen at once.
• Snapshots of a locked note were being written to disk in plain text alongside the encrypted body.
• The recovery alphabet contained L, which is indistinguishable from 1 in most of the fonts this app ships.
• Barrel Fire could stop drawing entirely after a window resize: one out-of-range colour index threw inside the animation tick, and because requestAnimationFrame sits at the end of that function, the loop was never scheduled again.
• Deterministic noise never returned a value above 0.5 — an overflow past 2^53 was destroying the low bits — which meant every hash(..) > 0.7 test in the retro scenes was dead code and the city had exactly zero lit windows.
• Effects drew over the Settings panel (a z-index off by one layer).

➖ Remove

• Image generation is gone. All three back ends turned out unreliable: Hugging Face's hf-inference retired the only model the app called and had been answering 410 for months, Google's image models return a hard quota error on any key without billing, and the remaining option sent your prompt to a third party. Inserting, pasting and storing images is untouched — only the part that asked a remote service to invent one.
• Withdrawn themes: Static, Fireflies, Pollen, Kite, Drive-In, Corner Shop, Clockwork, Murmuration, Foundry, Orrery. Anything you were using is migrated to the nearest survivor automatically.

• صدای کیبورد از ضبطِ واقعی است، نه سنتز. و صدای باران بازنویسی شد — هم آرام‌تر، هم شبیه‌تر به باران.
• رفع اشکال: آپدیتری که به‌جای آپدیت کردن گیت‌هاب را باز می‌کرد، و منوی کارهای هوش مصنوعی که پشت راست‌کلیکِ بعدی باز می‌ماند.
• ساخت تصویر حذف شد — هر سه سرویسش غیرقابل‌اتکا بودند. گذاشتن و چسباندن تصویر دست‌نخورده است.

• Settings has tabs. Twenty sections used to sit in one long scroll. They are now sorted into seven panes — General, Appearance, Layout, Editor, AI, Data, About — behind a tab strip pinned under the header. Settings reopens on whichever pane you were last on, and the shortcuts that jump straight to a setting (a missing API key, manage actions, the Pro-themes banner) switch to the right pane on the way.
• A new Pro theme: Starfall. A night sky behind the whole window — a field of stars, each twinkling at its own pace, crossed every few seconds by a comet with a fading tail. Density scales with the window, so a maximised PromptPad gets a full sky. Nothing in it reads the keyboard: like a real sky, it is there whether you type or not.

🎨 Polish

• Theme names are written under the swatches, on a five-column grid — you can tell Aurora from Circuit without hovering over each one first.
• Settings headings in Persian no longer carry the Latin letter-spacing, which was pulling the Arabic-script joins apart (لنظهمات → تنظیمات).
• The three Handy mode — … headings lost their prefix now that the pane groups them, and hints under a segmented control get room to breathe instead of wrapping around it.

- Write your own AI actions; run them on a selection, save the good ones.
- AI actions now respect multi-line selections (they used to silently rewrite
  the whole tab) and a selection edit is undoable in one step.
- Five providers: OpenRouter, OpenAI, Google AI Studio, Anthropic (Claude), and
  any OpenAI-compatible endpoint including local Ollama / LM Studio.
- Model picker built from the provider's real list, with validation of a saved
  model that has since been retired.
- Busy providers (Google's 503s) are retried and fall through instead of
  surfacing as a failed action.
- Ghosts theme now remembers the words already in a note.
