HGI Pool: using multiple HGI bridge devices

Egbert Broerse edited this page Oct 9, 2026 · 5 revisions

Introduction to HGI Pool

Users with poor RF coverage can connect a 2nd HGI or other dongle (e.g. USB + MQTT, or two USB sticks + Zigbee) to improve reception. Since Ramses RF 0.60.5, the integration allows you to use multiple HGI bridges. Even a mix of USB-connected bridges such as the HGI80, and MQTT bridges like those running ramses_esp are possible. Add an extra MQTT or Zigbee bridge to the HGI Pool to improve RF Coverage.

This feature will:

  • Deduplicate packets heard by both
  • Send commands via the strongest link for the target device
  • Re-patch the source ID to match the transmitting HGI
  • Fall back to the other port if one disconnects

Thanks to the schema-driven approach, just:

  1. Plug in / connect the 2nd RF dongle on a USB port, HA MQTT broker topic or Zigbee
  2. Wait until the device appears in discovery review (detected from RF traffic)
  3. Accept it
  4. Add the port to the Configuration > Manage HGI Pool pane and confirm
  5. Done — the pool starts using it (hot-reload, no restart)

pool members = uncheck to remove (removing the primary auto-promotes another) discovery candidates = check to accept confirm-clear-last guard switch

Legacy 0.42.0 solution

Use ser2net (this tool is not part of Hass OS, and not supported by Ramses RF since 2025).

Install ser2net on both the system running HA, and the remote system with the USB dongle attached.
