MDAY Tips

General Tips

  • Preparing ahead of time is the key of having a good mday. Have all your characters geared and as self sufficient as possible. Have a plan of where you want to go and what you want to accomplish.
  • Don't let perfection be the enemy of the good. Your characters don't all need to be optimal. Playing multiple characters all at once means you will not be playing as efficiently as you do when you play one... and that's OK! When I first lorded my mday army, 75% of my characters were still running hero gear and I spent the first few months farming gear for them all. If some of your chars don't have bark/steel, don't worry about it!
  • Use this time to explore areas you've never been and to practice runs that you'd like to try one day but don't want to feel the pressure of running it the first time with others.
  • Be respectful of others. Check if someone is already in an area before running (eg lordrun, eha). Don't camp somewhere too long / offer to leave if someone else is interested. Offer to bring a long a few others that don't mplay if you feel comfortable so they can enjoy a run too.

Cross Profile Communication

Many things can be done by issuing gt <command> orders. However, sometimes you need to issue a command directly to a profile. Vagonuth package comes pre-installed with a script called Cross Profile Communication which has the following helpful commands for MDAY:

#bid <profile_name> <command> forces a specific profile to perform a command, eg #bid vagonuth wear all`

#all <command> forces all profiles to issue a command, eg #all sleep`

#do <command> forces all profiles EXCEPT the one you're playing to issue a command, eg #do follow leader`

Useful Group Leader Commands in VagoPack

gt preach <spell> - preaches a priest spell

gt dance check checks your BLD's status

gt max veil BLD's enter max veil, useful for hard rooms / emergencies

gt inspire BLD's swap to inspire

gt bld sleep make your BLD's sleep

gt pick <dir> picks a lock

gt get/drop <item> [container] everyone gets or drops an item, useful for getting rid of junk

gt ablut/weal all have the group ablut / wear their equipment

gt flash <x> / gt tankname <dir> have your biggest Sor / a tank with autorescue on move in a direction

gt smith all / deposit all have all your characters smith or deposit

gt track <x> set up your tracker with "autotrack echo" then use your leader to track with gt track

Hero Group Comp Tips

  • It's often easiest to lead on one of your main tanks (though rescue lag may slow you down a bit).
  • Having a Viz or Pal will make healing a breeze. Having both will make for great EHA healing.
  • Mastering Hero mday first before attempting lord is often easier and a way to build a good first lord army.
  • Having at least a few hero levels on your heroes before adding them to your mday army is helpful. Add sanc insigs on any characters that can't cast sanc.

Lord Group Comp Tips

  • MDAY is much easier with a priest - I'd suggest making it a priority. If you don't have one, carry lots of crosses!
  • A bladedancer is also a huge asset. Additional bladedancers mean rarely needing to regen!
  • There are many areas that require both spellpower and melee, having both is helpful.
  • Gnome Wizards and Elf Archers make for cheap and easy firepower
  • A nice early lord mday group comp might look like: 2 tanks, a priest, a bladedancer, an assassin/rogue, 4+ casters and another melee type

MDAY Setup

Profile Setup

You’ll need to create a separate profile for each character you wish to play on mday. To do this, copy and paste your main profile for each character you wish to play (and name that new profile that character’s name, eg, for my character Vagonuth the profile name would be Vagonuth).

This can be done in Mudlet however it can be quicker to do it via your file explorer. For Windows, the default path for profile files in Mudlet is C:\Users\USER_NAME.config\mudlet\profiles. Copy and paste your main profile for each character you wish to play on mday. Note you'll need to manually edit the name of the character in your Mudlet profile select screen.

Launching Mudlet on MDAY

When launching Mudlet on MDAY, you'll want to open Mudlet and then open each character you wish to play in the same client window. You can continue to open new profiles by going to Games->Play (Alt+C on Windows). If any of the windows opened have their GUI messed up on opening, issue the command "LoadLayout" to fix it.

IMPORTANT: as you connect each character, ensure their gmcp loaded correctly. You can tell this if their character name loaded into the GUI. On MDAY, Avatar can sometimes take a few connection attempts before properly registering your characters gmcp.

NOTE if you have many characters: I have found best practice is to load 6 characters per Mudlet window. Increasing this to 8-9 is usually okay too. However, once I have more than 6-8, I open a second window and load the additional characters there. On MDAY, I usually have 4-5 Mudlet instances open, each with 8 characters.

Advanced Setup

If you have many character and you’re familiar with running python scripts, you can use my script to quickly create/update all your profiles each mday. This will let you have current versions of any your inventory, alleg list, any code tweaks, etc. on all your profiles. The python script can be found in my MudletQuickProfileCopy repo.

If you wish to launch multiple profiles quickly, you can use the command line / a .cmd file with a similar setup to this:

cd %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mudlet\app-*\

Mudlet -p Olodagh -p Azalad -p Zhonya -p Hezzur -p Zephyra -p Xossoko

where -p <profile_name> is each of your characters.
