Homebar 0.18.0

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 27 Oct 22:26

New

  • Device icons: 61 choices for inputs, including PlayStation, Xbox, Apple TV, WiiM, soundbars, receivers and projectors. Hold OK or press YELLOW, then UP to choose an icon. TV has its own four symbols and the original TV label. Names are sorted alphabetically.
  • Input appearance: show an icon alone or with HDMI, a label or CEC. Choose the name above favourites independently: HDMI, label or CEC. Existing text layouts remain available.

Fixed

  • Moving the Magic Remote pointer no longer shifts focus away from an input being edited.

Changed

  • Safer removal: the first DOWN shows a red warning; the second removes the favourite, input or optional shortcut. Moving or leaving edit mode cancels it. System stays available.
  • Input and shortcut move arrows sit above their tiles. The icon picker follows the edited tile; DOWN folds it away.
  • Added LG 75UN9070AUD (webOS 5.6.2) to the tested TVs, thanks to a user's report.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1). HD/FHD desktop checks and both panel builds pass; the C9 was not retested for this release.

Homebar 0.17.2

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 26 Oct 21:13

Fixed

  • Live TV: fixed the TV tile failing to open in 0.17.0 and 0.17.1 (#8). It now launches LG’s Live TV app instead of using the internal name saved for tile ordering. Moving and hiding the tile still work as before. Thanks to @curcioip for reporting the regression.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Launch requests verified locally for both panel variants, including a moved TV tile and unchanged HDMI inputs. Previous runtime testing: LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, Home panel) and LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, overlay); this fix has not been tested on a TV yet.

Homebar 0.17.1

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 26 Oct 17:04

Fixed

  • Missing Input Hook: the installer now clearly says installation is blocked and explains how to install and open Input Hook from the Homebrew Channel, then retry. It no longer presents the missing dependency as an unsupported TV (#9).

Changed

  • Installation instructions: the Input Hook prerequisite is highlighted before the install commands. The Home panel on older TVs does not require it.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Installer prerequisite checks tested locally. The panel is unchanged from 0.17.0, tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, Home panel) and LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, overlay).

@rawinek rawinek released this 26 Oct 16:44

New

  • Edit the Home row: move inputs, TV and shortcuts like favourites — hold OK or press YELLOW, move with arrows, hide with DOWN. System stays available.
  • Free up memory: close background apps from the Home row, or open LG Memory Optimizer on supported TVs. Show or hide the Apps and memory shortcuts in settings.
  • Input text: choose labels, HDMI-CEC names or port numbers, alone or in two lines. Each input fits its own text up to 200 px; long names can scroll.
  • Weather: choose standard or feels-like temperature.
  • Homebar timeout: hide after 3–60 seconds of inactivity (off by default). Paused in Launcher settings.
  • Restart Homebar from Launcher settings.

Fixed

  • Holding BACK: hidden inputs remain selectable and correctly labelled.
  • Home row sizing: keep both margins with seven favourites, TV and all shortcuts.

Changed

  • Inputs, shortcuts and top-bar items use switch lists in settings.
  • The overlay restores its hidden process after the TV closes it, helping the next HOME open faster.
  • Added a desktop simulator and LG E9 to the tested TVs.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, Home panel) and LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, overlay).

Homebar 0.16.1

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 25 Oct 22:34

Fixed

  • Live TV tile (webOS 10 overlay and other overlay TVs): on TVs that leave Live TV out of their app list (a 2022 LG on webOS 7.5.8), the TV tile showed "Could not open the app". Live TV is now always allowed (#8). Thanks to the user who found the cause and the fix.

Changed

  • webOS 7 (LG's webOS 22) tested by a user: the overlay works there.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

The Home panel (webOS 4 and 5) is unchanged. Tested on LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, the overlay).

@rawinek rawinek released this 25 Oct 14:00

New

  • Magic Remote pointer: pointing at a favourite, an input or a tile in Apps or System highlights it, as the arrows do. In Launcher settings pointing only outlines a row or value; a click opens or applies it.
  • The wheel scrolls the Apps grid (one row per notch) and the settings list. Scrolling never opens anything.
  • Key hints can be hidden: Launcher settings → Key hints. The colour keys show in the remote's colours, and YELLOW (same as holding OK) is now in the hints.
  • Hidden inputs in Launcher settings: every input with a box; OK hides or shows it, so a hidden input comes back without showing them all dimmed.
  • Top bar group in the settings: clock, current app, weather and temperature together. "App name" is now "App name above favourites".

Thanks to everyone on Reddit who asked for these!

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, the panel inside LG's Home) and LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, the overlay), pointer and wheel with a real Magic Remote on both.

Homebar 0.15.3

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 24 Oct 18:20

Fixed

  • With Glasshouse (webOS 10, the overlay): with Glasshouse's Home switched on, HOME showed it for a moment and then the TV went to HDMI 1. Glasshouse's Home runs under LG Home's id, and Homebar took it for LG's Home opening on its own. Homebar now leaves Home to Glasshouse: no switch to an input when it comes up or an app exits (#5). See Troubleshooting → With Glasshouse.

Changed

  • webOS 5 tested: an LG NANO80 (webOS 5.6.2) by a user, with the panel inside LG's Home, as on webOS 4 (#4).
  • A second webOS 6 TV tested by a user: LG UP78 (6.5.3), on the overlay (#3).

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

The Glasshouse fix is checked in the helper's logic, not yet on a TV with Glasshouse. Nothing changes for the Home panel (webOS 4 and 5).

Homebar 0.15.2

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 24 Oct 15:18

Fixed

  • Holding OK with an infrared remote (a plain remote, or a Magic Remote without its radio) opened the app instead of adding it to the favourites. An infrared remote sends a held button as quick presses; Homebar now takes them as one hold. Thanks to the user with a C9 who reported it.
  • Magic Remote pointer: holding the click on an app, a favourite or an input now does what holding OK does.

Changed

  • The installer gives LG's name for the webOS version too ("webOS 10.3.1, which LG calls webOS 25"), and the compatibility page lists both.
  • webOS 6: LG C1 (6.3.2) tested by a user, on the overlay; the probe now says why the Home panel does not fit there.

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, the panel inside LG's Home).

Homebar 0.15.1

Choose a tag to compare

@rawinek rawinek released this 24 Oct 12:09

Changed

  • LG's New Home screen (webOS 4, the Home panel): some 2019 TVs have two Homes and a Home screen setting to pick one, Basic (LG's ribbon, where the panel lives) and New (a full-screen Home). With New, HOME opens LG's Home and the panel never shows. install.sh --probe and the installer now say when a TV has the New Home and whether it is the one running; diagnose.sh shows which Home runs. On these TVs, set the Home screen to Basic. See Troubleshooting.
  • LG 43UM7100PLB (webOS 4.10.2) added to the tested TVs, by a user (#1).

Nothing changes for the overlay (webOS 10).

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, the panel inside LG's Home).

@rawinek rawinek released this 24 Oct 11:48

New

  • Weather in the chip at the top, between the app on screen and the clock: a symbol and the temperature, from Open-Meteo, with no account or key.
  • Choose the place on your phone: Launcher settings → Weather place shows a QR code; scan it and pick a town or city on the page that opens (the phone has to be on the same network as the TV). Until then the place comes from the TV's internet address.
  • Clock, current app and weather can each be shown or hidden, and the temperature can be automatic, °C or °F.
  • What's new: when an update is found, Updates shows its release notes.
  • About: the settings menu opens on the version, the GitHub address and a code to buy me a coffee.

See Using the launcher → Weather. What the weather sends over the internet: How it works.

Changed

  • Clock bar is now three settings. If you had it hidden, the clock, the app and the weather start hidden; turn on the ones you want.
  • diagnose.sh says whether the weather server answers (the place is left out).

Updating

From 0.10.0: System → Launcher settings → Updates. Older versions: run the install commands from the README once more. Favourites and settings stay.

Tested on LG OLED55C9PLA (webOS 4.10.2, the panel inside LG's Home) and LG OLED77B46LA (webOS 10.3.1, the overlay).
