Rusuite 3.141
Rusuite is a small office suite with a Rust core: Calc (spreadsheets), Write (documents) and Show
(presentations). The apps open and save real .xlsx, .docx and .pptx files, run on Windows, macOS and Linux and,
with nothing to install, in your browser at https://rusuit.es/.
3.141 is the first release with the new version numbers: each release adds one digit of π (3.141 → 3.1415 →
3.14159 …). It follows 0.1.0 and brings a large round of features in all three apps, the interface in all 24 official
EU languages and a second round of the AI assistant. Rusuite is free and open source (MIT) – and it will stay that way.
Highlights
- Calc – sheet and workbook protection, slicers, sparklines, Flash Fill, pivot grouping and calculated fields,
LET/LAMBDA and the new dynamic-array functions, Error Checking and Evaluate Formula, many new chart elements. - Write – Word's numbering galleries and List Paragraph spacing, linked text boxes and grouped shapes,
.dotx
templates and style sets, split/merge/convert tables, rich comments with @mentions, Simple Markup, more fields. - Show – PowerPoint's own table styles, freeform drawing with Edit Points, 177 shapes, 34 new animation effects and
24 new transitions, media trimming, custom shows and a presenter console with pen and ink. - Languages – the interface in all 24 official EU languages, using each language's Office terms and informal
address throughout. - AI assistant (desktop, your own key) – pictures as input, faster whole-document context through prompt caching,
a reasoning-effort choice and answers in your language.

All apps
- 24 languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek,
Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish and
Swedish – picked from a list with native names, or matched to your browser's language. Every language follows the
Microsoft Office terms of that language and addresses you informally. - AI assistant (desktop only, with your own Anthropic or OpenAI-compatible key): the whole document is cached so
follow-up actions are faster and cheaper, a reasoning-effort choice (Off/Low/Medium/High), attach a picture (Write,
Show), describe a picture as alt text, explain a chart, answers in the UI or document language, a model and
reasoning setting per action, save or copy a conversation as Markdown, and a guide for local models (Ollama, LM
Studio). - Shared shape geometry for Show and Write (one set of 177 presets, adjust and rotation handles alike in both apps).
- Warnings when opening
.xlsxand.pptxfiles are shown in your language; F12 is Save As in all three apps. - The File view shows the version ("Rusuite Calc 3.141").
- Website (rusuit.es): in all 24 languages, a "New in 3.141" section, the release and build in the footer, and a
Downloads page that explains the macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen warnings step by step. - Dialogs return the keyboard focus reliably, and several timing problems found by the automated tests are fixed.
Upgrade notes
None expected. Documents stay standard .xlsx, .docx and .pptx files; everything made with 0.1.0 opens unchanged.
Settings, recent files and autosave copies are kept. Install the new version over the old one.
Known limitations
- Calc: protection options "select locked/unlocked cells" do not restrict the selection yet, and Allow Edit Ranges
is missing; stacked vertical text; slicers are not printed or copied with Duplicate Sheet, and timelines are missing;
calculated pivot items are not included in subtotals and grand totals, no automatic date grouping, no PivotChart field
buttons; ignored error-checking warnings are not saved; colour filters for tables and custom icon sets are missing;
some chart details (custom label text, pattern fills, glow/soft edge/3-D effects, drop lines) are lost on save;
sparkline colours are not yet confirmed against Excel; Calc's slicer and protection files have been checked against
the specification only, not yet in Excel. - Write: lists inside comments and comments in text boxes; wrap polygons (Tight/Through, Edit Wrap Points); resize
handles on group members; diagonal table cell borders; a table's continuation page has no top border; dialogs still
measure in cm; picture bullets and Define New Multilevel List are missing; Word's style sets are approximated. - Show: per-letter/per-word animation is approximated, triggers are not mirrored in the presenter view; the Slide
Master view edits the main design only; presenter ink is saved as drawings, not as PowerPoint ink; Paragraph dialog
and ruler markers for indents are missing; recording narrations is missing; compound lines on shapes; the new
animation, outline and theme files have not yet been checked in PowerPoint. - AI assistant: exporting a conversation in the desktop Calc and Write saves through a download instead of the
system dialog. - Languages: the translations were reviewed against Office terminology, not yet by native speakers – proof-reading
of Irish and Maltese is especially welcome; some long labels may be shortened in narrow windows; a few messages
(error details inside file warnings) stay in English. - Desktop: unsigned builds and no automatic updates; saving overwrites the file directly (no temporary file) and
does not warn when the file changed on disk. - Files: compatibility is tested against LibreOffice and generated reference files; checks with files made in
Microsoft Office are done by hand before each release (docs/testing.md).

There is one set per app (Rusuite Calc, Write, Show). The SHA-256 checksum of every file is shown next to it under
Assets and on https://rusuit.es/downloads.html.
These are unsigned builds. Your system warns once per app; this is expected. On macOS 15 Sequoia and later, the
"Not Opened" dialog has no open button: click Done, open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll to Security,
click Open Anyway, enter your password and click Open (or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Rusuite Calc.app"
in Terminal). On macOS 14 and earlier, right-click the app › Open › Open. On Windows, SmartScreen's "Windows
protected your PC" needs More info › Run anyway. On Linux, make the AppImage executable with chmod +x. Compare the
checksum if you want to be sure the file is ours. Step-by-step instructions: https://rusuit.es/downloads.html.
Signed and notarised builds are planned once the developer accounts are in place.
Privacy
Unchanged: your documents never leave your device. The website only serves the program files: no upload, no account,
no cookies, no tracking, no analytics, and a security policy that lets the web apps talk only to their own site.
Autosave copies and recent files stay in your browser (or, on the desktop, in your user account's app folder) and can be
removed in File › Privacy. Cloud connections (WebDAV) and the AI assistant exist only in the desktop apps, are off until
you set them up with your own account, and contact only the server you configured, only when you use them. Details:
