New

• A privacy policy on the website, in English, Spanish and Swedish: what the app keeps on your computer, what goes over the network, and what changes when it is installed from the Microsoft Store.
• Ready for the Microsoft Store. When Reiks Viewer runs from its Store package, "Check for updates" opens its page in the Store, which installs its updates, and "Open codecs folder" opens a folder where you can put your own build of FFmpeg, because the Store installs apps in a folder nobody may change. The installer and the zip work as before.

Reiks Viewer uses libraries from the FFmpeg project under the LGPL, shipped as separate, unmodified DLLs. ffmpeg-source-n8.1.3-17-gc389840894.tar.gz is the FFmpeg source code of the included build. See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the app's folder.

New

• Print. Ctrl + P, or the Print button in the new menu, opens a print view inside the window. It shows the page as it will come out, and lets you choose the printer, the paper size, the orientation, whether the whole picture is shown or the page is filled, and the number of copies. "Printer settings…" opens the printer's own settings, for paper type and quality. The picture is printed as it is shown, with its rotation, flips and image settings. For a video, the frame on screen is printed. With "Hide file names" on, the print job is not named after the file.

Changed

• A menu for playback and print (the three dots). "Play the whole folder" with its options and "Repeat the current file" have moved there from Options, next to Print. The button stays lit while a folder is being played, and S still switches that on and off.
• Options now holds only what belongs to the app itself: keys, privacy, window colour and language.

Good to know

Printing goes through Windows' own print system. Windows and the printer's driver talk to the printer, over your network if it is a network printer, and they may keep a record of the job. Reiks Viewer's own code still has no networking.

The printer, paper size and size choice you last printed with are kept in the options file, next to your other options.

• Image settings is one menu. Brightness, contrast, saturation, gamma and warmth now share a menu with rotate and flip. Its button is a picture with a small gear, and A opens it. The separate sun and rotate buttons are gone.
• Options holds everything about the app itself, and the window colour is back there, next to playback, keys, privacy and language.
• Clicking outside an open menu closes it. So does Esc. On the picture, that click only closes the menu.

Installing over an older version

• Replaces Simple. Installing Reiks Viewer now removes Simple (the app's earlier name) instead of sitting beside it: your options are kept, and if Simple was your default app, that choice carries over to Reiks Viewer. A copy of Simple installed for all users is only removed when Reiks Viewer is also installed for all users.
• Default apps. The installer now adds Reiks Viewer to Windows' default apps list together with "Open with", so it can be chosen in Settings later without reinstalling, and it tells Explorer about the change at once. "Default app settings" in the app (F1) opens the right Settings page when the app is installed for all users.
• The version is easier to see. The website names the current version and downloads the file with the version in its name, and the installer file's properties in Windows show its version.
