[Bug]: Sync does not work via OneDrive after Obsidian Update? Error: Request failed, status 429

What happened?

Since a fiew days I can not connect to OneDrive anymore with remotely save, neither on IOS 26 nor with my Windows 11 Laptop. I did not change anything. Reconnecting also did not help, normaly the same error appears (one time on windows remotely save could connect but sync still did not work). Deleting the connection to onedrive and then reconnecting also did not help.

There was an update of Obsidian recently, maybe this ist the reason?

I have the exact same issue (Android mobile, Windows 11, and using One Drive Personal).
It would help if the debug info was up to date, or even if the error codes had more information to them

My Solution honestly was yesterday, to switch to obsidian sync. 10 Bucks every month is a price, but for me date security and smooth syncing between my devices it is somehow worth it. And I have to say, so far it is a wonderful experience:)

I’ve realized it’s probably OneDrive that’s enforcing the limit.
If I set the concurrency to 1 and sync about once per hour, it basically works, but I need real-time sync.

Since my Obsidian vault is around 100 GB, I’m thinking about switching to Obsidian LiveSync. Remotely Save is a really great plugin; it’s just a pity that the developer seems to have abandoned it.

Confirming I'm seeing this as well. The HTTP 429 'Too Many Requests' error strongly suggests this is a rate-limiting issue... I had previously increased the 'degree of parallelism' to 10. By reducing it to a lower value (like 3), the 429 errors have stopped and the sync is now stable, at least based on my initial testing over the last few hours. Hope this helps the diagnosis!

There’s basically no way to fix this — the limitation is on OneDrive’s side. I’d recommend switching to Cloudflare R2 instead; it should be around $1 per month. Remember to submit data from your phone, and set the multipart concurrency to 1.

I spent some time in the source after reading this thread.

One observation: Graph rate limits are real, but the OneDrive client (src/fsOnedrive.ts / pro OneDrive full) also appears not to handle HTTP 429 or honor a Retry-After header — plain request/fetch, no retry loop. The Dropbox client has an explicit 429 backoff path (retryReq in src/fsDropbox.ts). So “OneDrive limited us” and “the plugin doesn’t back off” can both be true; lowering concurrency helps for the same reason.

For people who hit this on OneDrive (especially PRO): what did you end up doing?
