The first public release of Phosphene: a generator that composes and synthesizes complete psytrance sets — Goa, Full-On, Progressive, Dark Forest and Hi-Tech — from a seed, a style and an energy arc.

  • Phosphene-1.1.0-Setup.exe — installs the standalone and the VST3 and fetches the data (wavetables, the two learned models, the spoken phrases) from Phosphene-data-1.1.0.zip below. No runtime to install.
  • Phosphene-1.1.0-portable.zip — everything in one archive, nothing to install.
  • Phosphene-Manual.pdf — every tab as a picture, every parameter, the signal flow and the reasons behind the design.
  • PhospheneQuest.apk — the native Meta Quest build (adb install -r PhospheneQuest.apk). It has not yet been run on a headset.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (x64) with AVX2, and a VST3 host for the plugin.

What is in it

  • The composer: a set arc over the night, tracks built from a grammar of intro, grooves, buildups, breakdowns, drops and outro, five style profiles, melodies under written genre rules with a learned model behind them, DJ-style overlaps between tracks, locks and rerolls for any track or section.
  • Nine synthesizers with 9216 presets: kick, rolling bass, a 303 acid and six polyphonic voices (lead, counter, arp, stab, pad, drone) with supersaw, VA, FM and wavetable oscillators, a state-variable filter or nine circuit-modelled filters, full envelopes, four LFOs and an eight-slot mod matrix. The composer picks a preset per synth and track by style and evens their loudness out.
  • A twelve-lane percussion kit, effects, a shamanic bed and spoken phrases.
  • Mixed and mastered as it plays: channel strips with sidechain duck, trance gate and distance; room, plate and hall; level, presence and audibility matching; bus compressor, mono bass, clipper and a true-peak limiter on a loudness target.
  • The panel: sixteen tabs generated from the engine's tables; a live ring on every knob and fader shows what the composer and the modulation play; turning a knob takes a sound over. MIDI out, MIDI and set export, a recorder, score cues over OSC.
