v0.8.1
Full Changelog: v0.8.0...v0.8.1
WinMux 0.8.0
Changed
- Tabs join the pane surface and the root's top tabs occupy the caption (WM-1). Smaller
labels, neutral close buttons, separators, a moving focus indicator, proportional sizing,
scrolling overflow and drag previews keep caption actions reachable. Motion respects the
Windows client-area animation preference. - Terminal frames reuse shaped rows and are paced at 60 Hz (WM-4), reducing measured UI
thread CPU. The total CPU target is not yet met: the matched implementation runs measured
about 1.39 cores against the 0.5-core target. Native typing latency and pixel equivalence remain
open; see ADR 0035. - ReadyToRun packaging and deferred App Paths registration shorten startup (WM-14), while
the legacy-instance safety probe still runs before session load. - Plain panes have title/action headers and routine toolbar actions use icons (WM-15).
Foreign-app placeholders use theme colours, app identity and explicit recovery actions (WM-12).
Inactive windows and canvas gutters use opaque theme backgrounds (WM-13).
Fixed
- Foreign hosts use the canvas arrangement's origin on restore (WM-2).
- Failed attach hosts stay hidden, and attach restore failures permit safe shutdown with a
visible explanation (WM-3). - Class-based discovery also checks the expected application process, and never falls back to
a pre-existing window after launch (WM-5). - Surviving foreign apps reattach only when their saved HWND, PID and process start time match;
otherwise the pane waits for explicit launch, preventing silent duplication (WM-6). - Exited foreign and terminal panes display their exit state and offer restart actions (WM-7).
- Initial hosting falls back to attach for unaware/system-aware apps on scaled displays,
including the measured IExpress rule (WM-8). - Unchanged restore intent no longer rewrites an idle session (WM-9). If the session file is
removed, a subsequent save recreates it instead of reporting success with no file. - Crash logs report the informational product version and tests use isolated data (WM-10).
WINMUX_DATA_DIRisolates profile files, logs and IPC endpoints; checkout runs skip Explorer
registration and legacy-session migration (WM-11). - Explicit saves await disk writes without blocking UI dispatch (WM-16).
Known limits
- Independent Release validation: 1,308 passed, 6 live FTP/SFTP skipped, zero build warnings
or errors. Owner visual checks remain open; these results do not establish native acceptance. - P2 review follow-ups remain: cancelling an animated tab close can leave its retained header
hidden; the shutdown save token does not interrupt an already active synchronous disk write;
live attach-to-embed switching bypasses the initial DPI fallback. Recorded in WM-1, WM-16 and
WM-8 respectively. - Mixed-DPI moves, broad app compatibility and the complete nested/foreign-pane visual matrix
remain unmeasured. Calculator title matching may need a localized quirks override.
v0.7.9
v0.7.8
WinMux 0.7.8-test.8
Type winmux in Explorer's address bar to open CMD in that folder.
- One WinMux process per Windows user. Repeated folder launches add CMD tabs to the active window.
- Requests arriving during session restoration wait until panes are ready; success is acknowledged after the new tab starts.
- Existing layouts and session files stay in use.
- The first direct GUI launch registers WinMux.exe in per-user App Paths, so Explorer and Run can find the portable installation without changing PATH. Launch it directly again after moving the folder.
- Startup, missing-folder and forwarding failures return visible errors instead of starting a duplicate process.
After updating, safely close any older running WinMux and start this version once. Older versions lack the new launch channel. Explicit session/keymap startup arguments apply when starting the primary instance; while WinMux is running, use its session/settings controls.
Includes all rendering, scrolling, terminal-key, tab, search and close-protection fixes from test.7.
Validation: Release solution build with zero warnings/errors; 1,258 tests passed, six live FTP/SFTP tests skipped. Named-pipe, fake-registry and real headless window routing checks passed. Native Explorer invocation and OS foreground activation still require interactive acceptance.
Requires the .NET 10 desktop runtime. Download the ZIP and verify it against checksums.txt.
WinMux 0.7.8-test.7
This prerelease includes the rendering and interaction fixes from test.6, plus:
- Search saved connections by name, folder, host, user, domain or protocol (Ctrl+F).
- Compact vertical tabs with aligned pin/close controls and grouped Add/More actions.
- Resize a vertical tab strip by dragging its inner edge; widths persist per group.
- Preserve manually named parent groups when nesting or renaming inner tabs.
- Ctrl+C always sends interrupt. Ctrl+V and Escape reach terminal applications.
- Copy: Ctrl+Shift+C or Ctrl+Insert. Paste: Ctrl+Shift+V or Shift+Insert. Alt+V remains available for image paste.
The WinMux command prefix is Ctrl+Shift+P. Rendering selection is in Settings → Appearance and requires restarting; Automatic uses Avalonia's GPU backend with software fallback, while Software forces CPU rendering.
Validation: Release solution build with zero warnings/errors; 1,236 tests passed, six live FTP/SFTP tests skipped. Headless pointer, terminal-control and rendering checks passed. Native Claude Code behavior, Windows DPI/drag feel and GPU/VM performance still require interactive testing.
Requires the .NET 10 desktop runtime. Download the ZIP and check its SHA-256 against checksums.txt.
