Ability for drafts and autosave in browser editors

Currently, when editing a page in an editor and refreshing the page all work is lost.

In the roadmap for v3.x Autosave Draft is planned. I presume this would solve above issue by saving the work while editing in the browser editor.

Since v3 seems a long way down the road:
Is there any chance for this feature to make it into v2?
Is there a way to support in any way (coding, fiscal, ...)?

One of my clients was about to use this wiki for their documentation site, kind of difficult to support this choice when I lost hours of documentation work because my browser refreshed. This is a surely a big issue for lot of users? Is there any update since OP comment?
