Roadmap

Themes the project is going to work on. The numbers are not priorities. Details are added as each theme is planned.

1. Testing

  • Add regression tests that execute queries. Today test/regtest only compares the AST and the plan of each SQL case with goldens. The new cases run SQL over small Parquet files and compare the results with goldens. The files may be kept in Git LFS. PR #101
  • Replace the hard-coded C++ tests that fit this form with such regression tests.

2. Distributed scheduler

  • First step: several nodes, with the master node chosen by hand through --master.
  • Next step: choose the master with Raft, using miniraft-cpp.

3. Storage

To be detailed.

4. SQL Doom

Make the changes needed to run SQLDoom, the port of the original 1993 Doom game logic and renderer to SQL that CedarDB runs. The list of missing features is still to be worked out.

5. Unified kernel API and ABI

  • Every kernel has the same shape: a read-only configuration state and a read-write state.
  • The kernel chooses its phase itself. Today the caller selects a phase by choosing an entry point.
  • This removes a lot of dispatching code on the C++ side and on the JavaScript side.

The TPC-H SF100 work is tracked in #98.
