@rexyrex rexyrex released this 09 Sep 04:08

First public release of Rex Boing: a macOS menu bar telemetry app with a tiny tyrannosaur that quickens as your Mac gets busier, backed by a dashboard covering processor, GPU, memory, thermals, power, network, storage and per-process attribution — no helper tool, no sudo.

Install

  1. Download Rex.Boing.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Drag Rex Boing.app into /Applications and open it.
  3. The rex appears in the menu bar. Click it for the dashboard, right-click for the character gallery and settings, and turn on Launch at login in Settings if you want it to stay.

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens without any Gatekeeper workaround.

What's in the box

  • Sixteen menu bar characters, all drawn live from (time, load) on one colour ramp.
  • Optional live readouts beside the character: CPU, GPU, memory, swap, temperatures, power, network, disk, battery.
  • Dashboard cards for processor (per-core, per-cluster clocks and power), graphics, memory and swap, thermals (every sensor), top processes by CPU / memory / GPU / energy / disk, app usage over time, power (whole-machine draw, battery, who is keeping the Mac awake), network and storage.
  • Process breakdown: click any graph to see every ranked process at that instant, with wakeups, and scrub through the retained history.

Everything runs unprivileged and the app makes no network connections. Details, sources for every number and the build instructions are in the README.
