v1.23.0
Tisty 1.23.0
Nothing to migrate: the log stays on schema 15, so this build and 1.22.2 read each
other's stores and either machine can update first.
Your pages have a place, and you are the one who gives it to them
A page used to arrive with nowhere to be. You made it, or dropped a document onto
another in the tree, and it hung there — under the rule at the end of the index,
named by nothing, reachable only by typing its line into the markdown yourself. The
guide told you to do exactly that. Meanwhile the assistant had just been taught to
write that line on its own, so work meant to hand you the assistant's tools had ended
by handing the assistant one more.
Every way of making a page now writes the line that names it, at the end of the
document it belongs to, where you will read it. And the index at the end of a
document moves pages: drag a row, or press the arrows on it. What moves is the line
in your own text, in the editor you already have open, saved the way everything else
you write is saved. No order is kept anywhere else that could disagree with what your
document says.
A book reads the way its own text says
Where a page sits has always been decided by where its card is written, and now
everything that draws a book agrees on that: the index, the printed sheet, what an
assistant takes out, and the folder of numbered files an export leaves behind. They
had been disagreeing — the same book taken out by you and taken out by the assistant
could number its chapters differently.
Pages your text says nothing about keep exactly the place they had. A book written
before any of this reads in the order it always did, and becomes a named one at
whatever pace you choose.
One thing to look at, because it may change how a book of yours looks: a card is what
gives a page its place. Writing about a page in a sentence — a link to it in the
middle of a paragraph — points at it without giving it a place, the way a footnote
points at a chapter without being one. A page you had only mentioned that way now
shows under the rule as loose, with the one button that puts it in the text. Nothing
was lost and nothing moved: it is named, not placed.
Twelve chapters are put in order in one sentence
Asking an assistant to order a book used to take one call per chapter, each one
rewriting the whole document. It takes the list now, and the pages named swap the
lines they already have: the words between the chapters stay where they are, a
chapter left out of the list keeps its place, and nothing is written that was not
already in your document.
An assistant is told what it cannot see. Where a page's line could not be written —
a book that ends inside a code fence, a book with nothing yet to take a title from —
it is told which of the two it was, and the page waits in the index with the button
that mends it.
A window that stops drawing says so instead of going black
Twice in one day the window came apart and left a black rectangle with a title bar:
no way back but closing the app, and nothing on screen saying anything had happened.
Nothing was ever lost — the writing is on disk — but there was no net. One holds the
fall now, says the window stopped drawing, says your work is where it was, and offers
to draw it again. What it writes down is the error's own message, which is what was
missing to chase the cause.
An import takes only what the document keeps beside it
A markdown file in Downloads could name a file two folders above it and the import
copied that in. A link that climbs above the folder the file came from is left where
it is — decided before the disk is touched, so the refusal reads the same whether the
file is there or not, and again after the path resolves, so a symlink cannot walk out
either.
