Kview v1.0.0 - Initial Public Release 🚀

We are thrilled to announce the first official open-source release of Kview!
Kview is an ultra-lightweight, zero-dependency, developer-first Apache Kafka® web management tool, CLI, and Model Context Protocol (MCP) server.

📊 Web UI & Management

  • Live Cluster Dashboard: Real-time KPIs covering broker counts, controller ID, topic and partition counts, estimated message counts, consumer groups, under-replicated and offline partitions.
  • Broker Partition Distribution: Visual analysis of partition balance across brokers with broker config inspector modal.
  • Cluster Architecture & Topology Diagram: Real-time end-to-end topology visualizing Producers → Cluster (Brokers + Topics + Partitions) → Consumers with SVG connections and live throughput metrics.
  • Topic Lifecycle: Create, describe, expand partitions, alter configurations, and delete topics with safety confirmation dialogs.

  • Read-Only Safety: Non-committing message browser using partition assignment and explicit seeks — never triggers group rebalances or touches consumer offsets.
  • Flexible Seeks: Seek by earliest, latest (scans backwards from high watermarks), explicit partition offsets map, or timestamp.
  • Live Tail over SSE: Real-time Server-Sent Events (SSE) streaming with auto-scroll, rate counter, and optional real consumer group attachment.
  • Message Inspection: Multi-tab viewer (Decoded, Raw, Hex, Schema metadata, Headers) with one-click reproduction to produce tab.
  • Producer: Built-in produce form with key, headers, partition pinning, and live JSON syntax validation.

📜 Schema Registry Integration

  • Pluggable Adapter SPI: Compatible with Confluent Schema Registry, Confluent Cloud, Redpanda, Karapace, and Apicurio.
  • Wire Format Sniffer: Automatically detects 5-byte Confluent wire format with safe raw fallback for unknown binaries.
  • Avro & JSON Schema Codecs: Generic decoding and encoding supporting logical types (dates, timestamps, decimals, UUIDs).
  • Produce Validation: Subject-aware payload generation and pre-flight schema compatibility validation.
  • High-Performance Caching: 5-minute memory TTL cache for schema resolution at O(1) during high-throughput tails.

🔐 Multi-Cluster Connections & Enterprise Security

  • Dynamic Multi-Cluster: Connect to and switch between multiple Kafka clusters dynamically at runtime.
  • Security Protocols: Full support for PLAINTEXT, TLS/SSL, mTLS (with keystores or direct PEM certificate paste), and SASL (PLAIN, SCRAM-SHA-256, SCRAM-SHA-512, OAUTHBEARER).
  • OAuth2 OIDC: Automatic token fetching and refresh via client-credentials flow.
  • Credential Protection: Cluster secrets stored server-side in data/connections.json and masked in all API responses.

Quick Start

Standalone JAR (Java 17+)

Download kview-1.0.0.jar from the assets below, then run:

java -jar kview-1.0.0.jar
