🚀 What's New

A fix release: the clock now stays where a desktop clock belongs, and keeps flipping while you use its menu.

  • Stays behind your apps: With Always on top off, DeskFlip now sits on the wallpaper behind every window. Before, it could come up in front of the app that launched it, and opening the right-click menu left it in front for the rest of the session.
  • Keeps time under the menu: The cards used to freeze while the right-click or tray menu was open. They now keep flipping.
  • One file fewer to keep: The translations are now built into DeskFlip.exe, so there is no lang\ folder any more.
  • License included: The zip now carries the LICENSE file.

📦 Installing

Each download is a zip. Unpack it anywhere and run DeskFlip.exe - there is no installer.

Keep the assets\ folder beside the exe. It holds the JetBrains Mono typeface the digits are drawn in; without it the clock falls back to Cascadia Mono. Upgrading from 1.0.1? The old lang\ folder is no longer used and can be deleted.

Settings live in %LOCALAPPDATA%\DeskFlip.ini, so the folder you unpack into can be read-only and nothing is left behind elsewhere. Your settings from 1.0.1 carry over.

Windows SmartScreen may warn you when running the .exe directly (non-Store download):

  1. Click More info on the SmartScreen dialog
  2. Click Run anyway

The Microsoft Store version is signed and verified - no warning.

🚀 First Release

A flip clock for your Windows desktop - the cards genuinely flip. Frameless and transparent, it sits on your wallpaper, stays put through Show Desktop, and remembers its place.

  • Real 3D flip: Every digit is drawn in true perspective. The top half releases, swings down through the hinge with natural foreshortening, and lands on the card below. The shadow moves with it.
  • Per-card motion: A card flips only when its own digit changes, exactly like a mechanical flip clock.
  • Frameless and transparent: No window and no background - it draws straight onto your wallpaper with a soft drop shadow, and drags from anywhere.
  • Widget to wall: Resize from the right-click menu puts a grip in the corner. Drag it from a small desktop widget to a wall-sized display. Position, size and every option are remembered.
  • Light and dark: Light mode is a separate theme, not an inversion.
  • Survives Win+D: Show Desktop leaves it where you put it.
  • Optional extras: Always on top, start with Windows, a system tray icon, seconds on or off.
  • Native and tiny: Direct2D on the GPU, under 1 MB, around 15 MB of RAM. It sleeps until the next second instead of running an animation loop. No .NET, no Visual C++ redistributable, no background service, no runtime of any kind.
  • Eighteen languages: Matched automatically to your Windows display language.
  • No telemetry: Nothing collected, nothing sent, no account, no internet needed.
