Bisect: July5 + 8 (debug print, CLEAN build) NoLTO

Same commit set as bisect-july5-plus8only-nolto (664bb8ecf debug print only, on top of confirmed-good +7) but built from a full 'make clean' instead of incremental. Testing whether incremental-build corruption, not the code diff, caused the previous failure.
