+This document provides a technical assessment of the rockoder.com blog to assist with future upgrades and maintenance.
+

+## Configuration Analysis (`_config.yml`)
+- **Deprecated Key**: Uses `gems:` instead of `plugins:` for Jekyll plugins.
+- **Empty `url`**: The `url` field is set to `""`. This should ideally be `https://www.rockoder.com`.
+- **Markdown**: Uses `kramdown`.
+- **Highlighter**: `pygments` is commented out; Jekyll 3.4+ defaults to `rouge`.

+## Critical Issues & Technical Debt
+1. **Outdated Ruby/Jekyll**: The environment is significantly out of date. Ruby 2.4.2 is EOL and may have security vulnerabilities. Jekyll 3.4.1 lacks many modern features and performance improvements found in Jekyll 4.x.
+2. **Universal Analytics (Deprecated)**: The site uses Google Universal Analytics (`UA-92971876-1`), which has been deprecated by Google in favor of GA4. No data is likely being collected currently.
+3. **Broken Content**: The post `_posts/2026-01-17-website-migration` is missing a `.md` extension. As a result, Jekyll does not recognize it as a post, and it is not rendering on the live site.
+4. **Asset Organization**: Assets are stored in `public/`, while modern Jekyll conventions often use `assets/`.
+5. **No CI/CD**: There is no explicit GitHub Actions workflow. The site relies on the default GitHub Pages build service.

+## Recommendations for Next Steps
+1. **Upgrade Jekyll and Ruby**: Migration to Jekyll 4.x and a modern Ruby version (3.x) is highly recommended.
+2. **Migrate to GA4**: Replace the Universal Analytics tag with a Google Analytics 4 (GA4) measurement ID.
+3. **Fix Post Extensions**: Rename `_posts/2026-01-17-website-migration` to `_posts/2026-01-17-website-migration.md`.
+4. **Modernize Theme**: Consider updating to a modern, responsive theme or a newer version of Hyde/Poole.
+5. **Set up GitHub Actions**: Implement a custom GitHub Actions workflow for more control over the build and deployment process.
