  • Send while the other device is offline: files and text you share from the Mac or the phone wait, then go out automatically the next time the devices connect. Clearing recent history keeps items still waiting to send.
  • Remove drag and drop onto the menu bar icon; dragging there opened the macOS desktop instead of sending. Use Send Files… in the menu bar menu or drop files into the window.
  • The Mac app icon now uses a dark tile, so it stays legible in dark mode.

Development prerelease: Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Android APK is debug-signed. Android debug certificates can change between runs; export received files before uninstalling a previous build. Do not present these downloads as production-signed software.

  • Drop files on the DropDuo menu bar icon to send them to your phone. With several paired phones, choose the target under Send To in the menu.
  • Show a Mac notification when a file or text arrives: click a file to show it in Finder, or choose Copy for text. Sends started from the menu bar confirm with a notification too.
  • Open DropDuo at login, so a paired phone can reach the Mac after a restart. It turns on after pairing and can be switched off in Settings. Closing the window keeps DropDuo running in the menu bar.
  • Clearer error messages on both apps: which device can't be reached and what to check, paused receiving, a busy receiver, folders, and lost connections.

Development prerelease: Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Android APK is debug-signed. Android debug certificates can change between runs; export received files before uninstalling a previous build. Do not present these downloads as production-signed software.

  • Keep the Android pairing-code scanner in portrait instead of rotating to landscape.
  • Redesign the Android app: focused pairing screen, a single home with Mac status, Files and Text actions, and recent transfers, transfer details in sheets, and a grouped Settings screen. Uses the brand palette with dark mode and custom line icons.

Development prerelease: Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Android APK is debug-signed. Android debug certificates can change between runs; export received files before uninstalling a previous build. Do not present these downloads as production-signed software.

  • Fix "Frame too large" when sending some large files from the Mac; Foundation JSON escaping could push a chunk past the frame limit.
  • Fix the Mac app crashing at launch when its bundled images could not be found (seen opening the downloaded app); images now ship in the app's Resources and missing art falls back to a system symbol.
  • Resume sends automatically when the devices reconnect after a dropped connection, with an option to stop resuming.
  • Simplify the README and docs; consolidate FAQ answers into the setup guide.
  • Add Mac first-launch instructions, a Settings shortcut, and public-source links.

Development prerelease: Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Android APK is debug-signed. Android debug certificates can change between runs; export received files before uninstalling a previous build. Do not present these downloads as production-signed software.

  • Redesign the Mac app around a sidebar of paired devices and a per-device timeline of sent and received items, with a composer bar, drop-anywhere sending, an offline banner, a pairing sheet with an expiry countdown, and a standard Settings window.
  • Rewrite the product introduction and user guides around everyday Mac–Android sharing; add a sourced competitor comparison, FAQ, and documentation index.
  • Add an animated, dependency-free product website with platform-aware Mac and Android downloads from the latest published release, plus a GitHub Pages workflow.
  • Reduce redundant CI runs: build/quality checks on develop and master pushes plus PRs, skipped for docs- and website-only changes, and CodeQL on PRs into master and weekly. Preserve all tests, platform coverage, and release automation.

Development prerelease: Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Android APK is debug-signed. Android debug certificates can change between runs; export received files before uninstalling a previous build. Do not present these downloads as production-signed software.

DropDuo 0.1.0-alpha.1 — Development Alpha

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 12:58
90dc7e7

DropDuo’s first public development alpha: native local sharing between your Mac and Android phone. Install both apps, pair once with a QR code and Mac approval, then share selected files, photos, videos, text, and links in either direction. No account or cloud upload is required.

Downloads

Device Download
Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer), macOS 14+ Mac arm64 ZIP
Intel Mac, macOS 14+ Mac Intel ZIP
Android 10+ Android APK

Choose these downloads under Assets; GitHub’s Source code archives do not contain installable apps.

Install and share

  1. On Mac, unzip and move DropDuo.app into Applications. These Mac apps are ad-hoc signed and not notarized. After attempting to open a verified build you trust, macOS may offer System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. See Apple’s instructions.
  2. On Android, open the APK and allow installation from the browser or file manager when prompted. This alpha is debug-signed and is not a Play Store release. Debug certificates may change between builds. Use Recent → Save a copy to export received files before uninstalling an older build; uninstall removes app storage and pairing.
  3. Open both apps on a reachable local network. Choose Pair a device on Mac, scan its code in Android, and approve the request on Mac. Keep the Mac awake and the apps available. Send through Android’s Share menu or Mac’s file picker/drag and drop.

Usage guide · Report a bug

What’s included

  • Remembered trusted pairing and authenticated, encrypted local transfers.
  • Transfer progress, cancellation, manual retry/resume, and local recent history.
  • Android Share integration, Mac menu-bar access, receiving controls, and device revocation.
  • Bold double-D branding, source code, contributor guides, and repeatable automated checks.

Validation and known limits

All nine jobs in the release workflow passed, including Android tests/build/lint, both Mac architectures, and Swift/JVM interoperability. Downloaded installer checksums, Mac signatures/architectures, and Android APK signature/version were verified before publication.

This is an early tester alpha. Physical-phone QR pairing and LAN discovery, long background sessions and battery policies, sleep/wake and network switching, large-file endurance, accessibility, production signing, and an independent security review remain outstanding. Automated checks do not establish those behaviors. See validation limits. The v1 protocol has no forward secrecy.

Verify downloads and notices

Download an installer and its matching .sha256 file into the same folder. On Mac, run shasum -a 256 -c <installer filename>.sha256. If you downloaded all three installers, use shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.

Build metadata records source commit 90dc7e725c61c1828514fdfdc4f90e2fb24a1f66, version 0.1.0-alpha.1, and build 1. LICENSE, NOTICE, DEPENDENCIES.md, and THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.zip provide licensing and dependency notices; the license archive has its own checksum.
