Text Snip 1.0.0

Native OCR snipping for Windows.

Press Win+Shift+O, drag over text, release, and Text Snip copies recognized text to your clipboard.

Highlights

  • Mobile-style OCR selection brought to Windows as a native desktop shortcut.
  • Local CPU OCR with bundled PP-OCRv6 ONNX detector and recognizer models.
  • No runtime model downloads or cloud OCR dependency.
  • Native tray app, global hotkey, transparent selection overlay, and clipboard output.
  • Start Menu shortcut and desktop shortcut by default.
  • Startup launch is enabled by default in the installer.
  • Repair install support, including optional settings/log reset.
  • User-facing doctor mode: run OcrSnip.App.exe --doctor from the installed app directory.

Installer

Download Text-Snip-Setup-x64.exe from the release assets.

The installer includes the app, OCR models, runtime dependencies, third-party license files, shortcuts, and uninstaller. It does not install a driver, service, browser extension, shell extension, background updater, telemetry agent, or network component.

If the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime is missing or outdated, the installer uses the bundled Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. If Windows blocks that runtime install without elevation, setup stops with a clear message instead of leaving a broken app behind.

Verification

Built from commit 9e71e54cf7450cedd1091258d76bf2a7537a40af.

Safe local release verification passed on Windows x64:

  • clean release build;
  • 64 unit/regression tests;
  • model hash/config checks;
  • 74 OCR fixture checks, including spacing-sensitive, dense, clipped, rotated, tilted, multilingual, symbol, contrast, low-quality, and photo-scene cases;
  • external validation kit generation and self-verification;
  • ISO generation;
  • signing-status report;
  • compatibility report;
  • installer verification with startup registry and dirty-directory preservation checks.
