@skswave skswave released this 16 Sep 00:26

Pre-release demo. macOS on Apple Silicon only. Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple,
so it installs without a security warning.

A matching Windows build is in progress and will be published here once it is code-signed.

Install

  1. Download Rootz-Desktop-6.6.1-arm64.dmg
  2. Open it and drag Rootz Desktop to Applications in Finder
  3. Launch from Applications

macOS will ask once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, and will say Apple checked
it and found no malicious software. Click Open.

Check your Mac first: Apple menu → About This Mac. "Chip: Apple M…" runs natively.
"Processor: Intel" will not run — there is no Intel or universal build yet.

Drag it in Finder — don't copy it in Terminal. cp -R preserves the quarantine flag, which
makes macOS run the app from a hidden read-only copy. It starts with a blank wallet and looks
like data loss. Finder does the right thing.

What it is

Your wallet is your identity, and on this build it is bound to this Mac's Secure Enclave — a
P-256 key generated inside the Enclave that can never be exported from it. A website cannot sign
for you; that is why this is an app.

Before you put a real identity on it

  • Losing the Mac loses that identity. The enclave key cannot leave the machine — the security
property and the risk are the same fact. The recovery mechanism that would let a second device
restore you is designed but not yet built. Keep your recovery phrase.
  • A fresh install runs in LOCAL mode until it is registered on an Identity contract.
  • Alpha: expect rough edges and frequent updates.

Verifying

codesign --verify --deep --strict "/Applications/Rootz Desktop.app"
spctl -a -vvv "/Applications/Rootz Desktop.app"
xcrun stapler validate "/Applications/Rootz Desktop.app"
