lss allow piping in and out

on our synlogy there is a @eaDir in every folder.
so when I run lss i get all those folders in the output.
now we could add a filtering option to lss but that would be overkill
so if i could pipe the output from the find command to lss and lss reduces the sequences that would be super useful
and then if i could pipe the output to grep or to sort or something else that would be helpful too

i imagine this and #81 would be enough for it to become a small bash tool that people just use for work on the command line.

especially if you publish lss on brew

thanks @patrickwolf I agree this is a useful operation (and I have a synology too and those @eaDir dirs are annoying heh).

fwiw, this is technically possible now using xargs, because lss expects a list of files:

$ find ./tests/ -name *.png | xargs lss
  10 012_vb_110_v001.%04d.png [1-10]
  10 012_vb_110_v002.%04d.png [1-10]
   3 fileA.%04d.png [1-3]
   4 z1_001_v1.%d.png [1-4]
   4 z1_002_v1.%d.png [1-4]
   4 z1_002_v2.%d.png [9-12]

I could also consider implementing an optional ignore list when walking directories... I've done that before in other projects, but it would affect performance since it would have to check each filename against the ignore list. this could be disabled by default though.

can you tell more about getting it available on brew? (not a mac user)

ah that is great. actually all that is needed to put that example into the docs and into the command line help and this request could be closed. no need to put a filter in when we have find

And @eaDirs I have no idea who thought that was a good idea to not have a central place but to clutter up the whole directory tree and then hide it in the GUI!

I've added a section in the readme about piping find output to lss for now. I'll also create a new ticket for creating a homebrew formula, and even try getting it into homebrew-core.

reopening this because there may be a way to support direct pipes into lss (w/o xargs). I'll see if I can make that work for the next version.

fyi this has been addressed in version 0.9. you can now pipe directly to lss:
