@rsheyd rsheyd released this 13 Jul 17:31

Initial public release of Notehold, a command-line backup utility for macOS.

Highlights

  • Creates dated ZIP backups of the complete local Apple Notes database.
  • Verifies new archives and stores an adjacent SHA-256 checksum.
  • Runs a lightweight daily stale check through a user LaunchAgent.
  • Provides commands for status, manual backups, retention previews, upgrades, and safe uninstall.
  • Installs independently of the downloaded release under Application Support and exposes notehold through ~/.local/bin.

Safety notes

  • Automatic cleanup is disabled by default.
  • Uninstall never removes backup archives, checksums, destinations, or logs.
  • The command-line version requires Full Disk Access for /bin/bash to read Apple Notes' protected data container. Read the README's Permissions section before installing.
