E-Mail accounts not working anymore #598
|
Dear all, I am struggling with using email accounts to send automatic emails via formr. This had worked before with some formr/email accounts I used a while ago (up until 2023). I wanted to set up a new study with one of my old formr accounts but when I tried to send automatic emails it did not work. When I tried to save the email account again with the same setup for outlook-mails (SMTP Host: "smtp.office365.com"; SMTP Port: "587"), I got this error message: "Account Test Failed: SMTP connect() failed. https://github.com/PHPMailer/PHPMailer/wiki/Troubleshooting" I am aware of this github conversation: #569. But this seems to be another issue. I just noticed that the formr.org instance has some problems due to growth in number of users and that new account and new study/run creation has been disabled (#584). Is it possible that the use of e-mail accounts for automatic sending is also disabled or somehow compromised? Best, |

Hi Ludwig, yes, we now recommend self hosting, because the formr.org instance is not running stable anymore. But the error you mention sounds unrelated. It could just be that Office365/your uni changed permission for automated SMTP sending and now requires OAuth. Especially if you didn't use it for a longer while that could explain it. I'm afraid that means you'll have to find a different account to send email from. |
