0.8.0

Classic play is unchanged from 0.7.2: replays and online checksums are identical.

Translations

  • The whole menu system in 11 languages: English, Português (Brasil), Español, Français, Italiano, Deutsch, Polski, Türkçe, Bahasa Indonesia, Filipino, 日本語.
  • OPTIONS → INTERFACE → LANGUAGE. Default follows your system.
  • Fighter and stage names stay as their authors wrote them.
  • Japanese uses its own pixel font (DotGothic16).
  • First pass, machine-translated. Corrections welcome: one file per language in motif/lang/, see https://rugen.dev/creating/translating/

In-game updater

  • The title screen shows a pill when a new version is out.
  • OPTIONS → UPDATE: check, download, verify (SHA256SUMS), install, restart.
  • Portable zip / tar.gz installs update in place. rugen.toml, chars/, stages/, themes/ and replays are kept.
  • .deb / .rpm installs get a download link instead.
  • rugen update from a terminal. [update] check = false or --no-update-check turns the check off.
  • Needs 0.8.0 on both sides: the first automatic update will be 0.8.0 → 0.8.1.

  • PROFILE → LINK WEBSITE shows a one-time 6-character code. Type it at https://rugen.dev/settings/link and your rugen.dev profile shows your rating, rank and matches.
  • Site tournaments know which game account plays.
  • rugen://watch/CODE links on the site open the game straight into WATCH of that match. Windows and Linux portable builds: OPTIONS → ONLINE → REGISTER RUGEN:// LINKS. Packages register it on install.
  • Tournament rooms called by rugen.dev have no host: the game says "called by the server" and hides the host buttons.

Packages install the game for every user; fighters and stages then go in
~/.local/share/rugen/chars and ~/.local/share/rugen/stages.
The tarball is a self-contained folder like the Windows zip.
