| Linux x86_64 (glibc 2.35+: Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 36 or newer) | cadrs-v0.1.5-x86_64-linux.tar.gz |
| Windows x86_64 (Windows 10 or 11) | cadrs-v0.1.5-x86_64-windows.zip |
Each archive holds the executable, its libraries/ folder (the built-in symbols, footprints and 3D models), the README and the licenses. Nothing needs installing: unpack it and run cadrs (Linux) or cadrs.exe (Windows), keeping libraries/ beside it. SHA256SUMS.txt has the files' checksums.
On Linux, the app needs a Vulkan-capable GPU driver, and ALSA and udev (present on desktop distributions). The Windows build isn't code-signed, so SmartScreen may warn the first time: choose More info › Run anyway.
Documents are saved in ~/.local/share/cadrs/ on Linux and %APPDATA%\cadrs\ on Windows.
What's new since v0.1.4
- PCB boards in Part Studios and Assemblies.
- Derive a board from a PCB Studio into a Part Studio as its 3D model or its layout, with an outline that can follow a sketch.
- Edit the layout in 3D: grab footprints and tracks on the board and move them; the airwires follow while you drag.
- Fitting aids: line a pad up with a pin or a mate connector's axis, Align onto a mate connector, room readouts.
- Edit a board in context in an assembly, also inside a subassembly; what its components run into is listed.
- STEP export and drawings use the components' real models; IDF boards derive too.
- Schematic.
- An unbounded sheet with no paper edge, frame or title block.
- Wires split into pieces between joins, with end drags; rows of pins re-run clean.
- Pastes land centred on the pointer; joins are marked on pin ends and net labels.
- New wires take the colour of the wires they join; a colour editor for wires.
- The symbol chooser's list scrolls with the mouse wheel.
- Schematics pasted into another PCB Studio bring their parts; Copy, Paste and Add to my library for components.
- New power ports for AC live and neutral.
- Layout.
- An auto-router (on the GPU when there is one), with clean 45° routes and no vias on SMD pads.
- Drag tracks and their ends, box select, rotate several at once, zones on Z.
- Double-click a track to select its net; Shift+double-click adds a net to the selection.
- Part Studio.
- Double-click a face, edge, vertex, sketch or part to edit the feature that made it; the feature list opens and scrolls to it.
- Direct edits: Delete face, Move face and Simplify.
- Drop PNG, JPEG or GIF files into a Part Studio to insert pictures.
- Sketches: hover, select and constrain to part vertices; dimensions to part edges; Esc never leaves the sketch.
- Extrude: previews of the change and smoother arrow drags.
- Faster with large documents.
- The history is saved in the background, so edits no longer freeze the app for seconds.
- Closing a document keeps only the history versions need: a 213 MB history became 1.6 MB, and the document opens in a fraction of the time.
- Onshape import. Part Studios with derived parts import fully.
- MCP server. AI assistants can drive the running app: documents, sketches, features, STEP in and out, drawings and boards.
- Fixes. Right-clicking a document on the Documents page no longer crashes the app.

What's new since v0.1.3
- Schematic and PCB design in PCB Studio. Draw a board's schematic and layout in cadrs, KiCad style, then see it in 3D.
- Schematic:
- place symbols (R rotates them while placing) and draw wires; junctions are added for you, and overlapping wires are joined;
- labels and global labels, text, mirror, copy/paste/duplicate, find, net highlight;
- wires stay on their pins and square when parts move;
- colour a wire, and the wires connected to it change with it;
- choose a symbol's footprint from the library;
- plot to PDF and SVG, and export the netlist.
- Layout:
- tracks, zones with see-through fills, keep-outs;
- lines, rectangles, circles and text with height, thickness and alignment;
- import an SVG graphic (a logo) onto any layer;
- drag footprints with the mouse; footprint and shape properties;
- a layers panel with high-contrast mode, net highlighting, track width stepping, a ruler;
- DRC, including missing courtyards and silkscreen over pads;
- pad numbers and net names on the pads, net names along the tracks.
- 3D:
- boards drawn in cadrs show their solder mask, copper, gold pads and silkscreen;
- footprints carry VRML, STEP or OBJ models in their own colours;
- after zoom to fit the view orbits about the board, and with components selected, about them.
- Component editors: a pin table, arrange pins as a box, pad arrays, renumbering.
- Outputs: STEP with the parts' models, and JLCPCB BOM and placement files.
- Schematic:
- Libraries.
- Symbols, footprints and 3D models ship as files in a library folder, and the library browser shows them.
- Search JLCPCB parts and download them, with their symbol, footprint and 3D model, into your own library (
~/.local/share/cadrs/librarieson Linux).
- PCB Studio assemblies.
- Create an assembly from a board, with component documents and version-pinned references.
- Documents page.
- A document with only a board shows the board in its thumbnail.
- The details panel's thumbnail is sharp.

- Sketch and cut directly in the flat view; export the flat as DXF/DWG; insert a DXF or DWG into a sketch.
- Flat pattern drawings with bend lines and bend notes.
- Import a legacy sheet metal part (Thicken with tangent propagation and its bend cylinders), and use sheet metal in top-down design with Derived.
- Viewing. Render modes (with or without edges, hidden edges, translucent, hidden lines removed or visible), perspective, zoom to window, previous view and named views.
- Section view. Up to four section planes (two cut a wedge), items to exclude or include, an offset arrow and a rotation arc, and hatched caps.
- Analysis. Draft analysis, curvature map and combs, and zebra stripes; mouse controls as in Onshape, SolidWorks, Inventor or Creo.

What's new since v0.1.0
- Managed in-context design. Edit a part in the context of its assembly: a ghosted snapshot of the assembly to sketch on, project edges from and extrude or revolve up to. A Part Studio can hold several contexts; you pick the active one, rename, update or delete it. Primary and secondary instances show in-context arrows, and a dot marks a context that needs updating. Contexts also work with linked documents.
- Onshape import brings across assemblies (instances, mates, part colours, folders) and in-context features. All 108 test documents import in about 5 minutes, and no feature takes more than 10 s to rebuild.
- Faster and more responsive.
- Opening an assembly no longer blocks on its Part Studios' rebuilds.
- Rebuilds show "Rebuilding… n / total".
- Reopening a document restores its last rebuild.
- Large assemblies no longer freeze the app.
- Viewport rendering and picking are faster.
- Measure tool, and the left panel can now be resized: drag its right edge.
- Fixes, including a crash opening a sweep of a circle around a circle (a torus) and hangs adding some extrudes.

cadrs v0.1.0
The first public release of cadrs, a parametric, feature-based CAD app written in Rust, with a Bevy UI and an OpenCASCADE modeling kernel.
Early software. cadrs is under active development. Expect rough edges, and document formats that may still change between versions.
