New Relations

Instead of entering an existing relation id, you can build a route relation from scratch.
- Pan the map to where the route starts - the visible area is what gets downloaded, since there's no existing relation to read an area from.
- On the load screen, instead of typing a relation id, use Create a new route from the visible area: pick Bus or Tram from the dropdown, and click Create.
The view switches to editing, labelled Creating relation (it has no id yet - OSM only assigns one once you upload), with a reminder of what to do next: click the ways the route follows, then right-click one to set START and another to set END.
From here it works exactly like editing an existing relation:
- Click ways to add them to the route.
-
Right-click a way near either end to set START or END - and, if the bus
turns around somewhere without a
highway=turning_circle, to allow a U-turn there. - Fill in
name,ref,fromandtoin the tag table. The three structural PTv2 tags -type=route,route=bus/route=tram, andpublic_transport:version=2- are set for you and locked, the same as when editing an existing relation. - Pan to download more of the map as you go, so you only need to start somewhere sensible rather than fit the whole route on screen at once.
- On a bus or trolleybus route, right-click anywhere a stop is missing to add it - either typed in manually, or picked up automatically if it's suggested from NaPTAN.
Nothing is written to OSM until you upload - the relation itself is created by that upload, the same as its members, stops and tags. On success, the new relation's id is shown as a link.
