Flock v0.1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Jun 18:10

Flock v0.1.4 — first auto-update

If you're on v0.1.3, you should see a banner at the top of Flock saying "Flock 0.1.4 is available — Install update". Click it; Flock downloads in the background, restarts, and you're on v0.1.4.

If you're still on v0.1.2 or earlier, you'll need to install v0.1.3 manually first (one-time Open Anyway dance on macOS) and from there auto-updates take over.

What changed

  • Added the current version to the Account dropdown menu (top-right avatar → click). This is the visible signal you can use to confirm the auto-update actually applied — after upgrading from v0.1.3, the dropdown should read Flock v0.1.4.
  • Otherwise no user-visible changes; this release is primarily a test of the v0.1.3 auto-updater.

Flock v0.1.3

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Jun 17:56

Flock v0.1.3 — auto-updates from here on out

The big change: Flock now checks for new versions on launch and offers a one-click in-app update. From v0.1.3 onward you'll never have to manually re-download a release — when v0.1.4 lands, Flock prompts you to install it from inside the app, downloads in the background, and restarts. No more Gatekeeper dialogs after the first install.

⚠️ This is the last release that requires the manual install dance below. After this, updates happen automatically.

Install on macOS (one last time)

  1. Download Flock_0.1.3_aarch64.dmg (Apple Silicon) or Flock_0.1.3_x64.dmg (Intel) below.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Flock to your Applications folder.
  3. Open Applications and double-click Flock.
  4. macOS will show a dialog saying "Apple could not verify Flock is free of malware that may harm your Mac." Click Done (not Move to Trash).
  5. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  6. Scroll down to the Security section. You'll see "Flock was blocked to protect your Mac" with an Open Anyway button. Click it.
  7. Authenticate with your password or Touch ID.
  8. Double-click Flock in Applications again. A new dialog appears with an Open button. Click it.
  9. Flock launches.

Steps 4–8 are needed only once per install. Future automatic updates skip the OS warning entirely because the update package is verified inside the running app.

Install on Windows

  1. Download Flock_0.1.3_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi).
  2. Run it. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click More info → Run anyway.

How to use

  1. Click Connect with Foursquare — your browser will open to Foursquare's login.
  2. Sign in and approve Flock.
  3. Wait for your check-ins to sync.
  4. Explore — map, timeline, filters, and analytics.

Your data stays cached on your machine. Flock talks directly to Foursquare; nothing routes through a third-party server.

Already on an earlier version?

You'll need to install v0.1.3 manually using the steps above — earlier versions don't have the updater baked in yet. After v0.1.3 is installed, every future release auto-prompts.

Known limitations

  • Builds are ad-hoc signed but not Apple-notarized. The Open Anyway dance is required once per fresh install.
  • The auto-updater downloads in the background and restarts Flock. If you have unsaved work in the timeline (e.g., mid-search), finish first.

Flock v0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 13 Jun 21:24

Flock v0.1.2 — proper install path for modern macOS

Two fixes since v0.1.1:

  • Squircle app icon. The pin-flock disc now fills the full icon tile in the standard macOS app-icon shape, instead of floating in a transparent gutter that some macOS chrome rendered as a grey square.
  • Working install path for macOS Sequoia. v0.1.1's "right-click → Open" workaround used to work on older macOS, but Sequoia (macOS 15) blocks unsigned apps with a "Move to Trash / Done" dialog that has no Open Anyway button. The correct path on modern macOS is via System Settings, documented below.

Install on macOS

  1. Download Flock_0.1.2_aarch64.dmg (Apple Silicon) or Flock_0.1.2_x64.dmg (Intel) below.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Flock to your Applications folder.
  3. Open Applications and double-click Flock.
  4. macOS will show a dialog saying "Apple could not verify Flock is free of malware that may harm your Mac." This is expected — the build isn't paid-Apple-Developer-signed. Click Done (not Move to Trash).
  5. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  6. Scroll down to the Security section. You'll see a line that reads "Flock was blocked to protect your Mac" with an Open Anyway button next to it. Click it.
  7. Authenticate with your password or Touch ID.
  8. Double-click Flock in Applications again. A new dialog appears with an Open button. Click it.
  9. Flock launches.

You only have to do steps 4–8 once. Future launches open normally.

Install on Windows

  1. Download Flock_0.1.2_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi).
  2. Run it. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning, click More info → Run anyway.

How to use

  1. Click Connect with Foursquare — your browser will open to Foursquare's login.
  2. Sign in to your Foursquare account and approve Flock.
  3. Wait for your check-ins to sync. (A few seconds for new accounts, a couple of minutes for years of history.)
  4. Explore — map, timeline, filters, and analytics.

Your data stays cached on your machine. Flock talks directly to Foursquare; nothing is routed through a third-party server.

Already installed an earlier version?

You can upgrade by downloading v0.1.2, dragging it to /Applications, and overwriting the old copy. Your check-ins and preferences are preserved (they live in ~/Library/Application Support/io.ryanmcdowell.flock/).

Known limitations

  • Builds are ad-hoc signed but not Apple-notarized. The System Settings → Open Anyway path is a one-time step per install on macOS.
  • No auto-updater yet — to upgrade, download the new release and replace the app.
  • Designed for desktop (1280×800+); narrower window sizes work but aren't polished.

Flock v0.1.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 13 Jun 21:07

Flock v0.1.1 — install fixes

Two fixes since v0.1.0:

  • Real app icon. v0.1.0 accidentally shipped with the Tauri scaffold's default icon instead of the pin-flock icon. Fixed.
  • No more "damaged" error on macOS. v0.1.0 unsigned builds triggered macOS's strict "Flock is damaged and can't be opened — you should move it to the Trash" dialog. v0.1.1 is ad-hoc signed, so you'll only see the standard "unidentified developer" prompt that the right-click → Open path below handles.

Install

macOS — Apple Silicon (most modern Macs, ~2020+)

  1. Download Flock_0.1.1_aarch64.dmg below.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Flock to your Applications folder.
  3. Open Applications, right-click Flock → Open → Open on the dialog.

macOS — Intel

Same steps as above, but download Flock_0.1.1_x64.dmg.

Windows

  1. Download Flock_0.1.1_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi).

Already installed v0.1.0?

You can upgrade by downloading v0.1.1, dragging it to /Applications, and overwriting the old copy. Your check-ins and preferences will be reused (they live in ~/Library/Application Support/io.ryanmcdowell.flock/).

Known limitations in v0.1.1

  • No auto-updater yet — to upgrade in the future, download the new release and replace the app.
  • Designed for desktop (1280×800+); narrower window sizes work but aren't polished.
  • Builds are ad-hoc signed but not Apple-notarized. The right-click → Open path is a one-time step per install.

Flock v0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 13 Jun 20:11

Flock v0.1.0 — first release 🎉

Flock shows every Foursquare Swarm check-in you've ever made on one interactive map. Search, filter, and browse stats — all locally on your machine.

Get started at https://ryanmcdowell.github.io/flock/ or download directly below.

Install

macOS — Apple Silicon (most modern Macs, ~2020+)

  1. Download Flock_0.1.0_aarch64.dmg below.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Flock to your Applications folder.
  3. Open Applications, right-click Flock → Open → Open on the dialog.

The right-click → Open path is important. If you just double-click, macOS will show "Apple could not verify this app is free of malware" and refuse to open it. This release isn't code-signed yet — signing is on the roadmap, and the right-click workaround is a one-time step.

macOS — Intel

Same steps as above, but download Flock_0.1.0_x64.dmg.

Windows

  1. Download Flock_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe (or the .msi).

(Takes a few seconds for new accounts, a couple of minutes for years of history.)
  4. Explore — map, timeline, filters, and analytics.

Your data stays cached on your machine. Flock talks directly to Foursquare; nothing is routed through a third-party server.

Known limitations in v0.1.0

  • Builds are not code-signed yet, hence the one-time OS warnings on first launch.
  • No auto-updater yet — to upgrade, download the new version and replace the app.
  • Designed for desktop (1280×800+); narrower window sizes work but aren't polished.
