Gemini Local Coder v2.0.0 - Security & Configuration Overhaul
Full Changelog: v1.0.0...v2.0.0
This major release focuses on security, configuration robustness, and essential quality-of-life improvements, establishing a stable foundation for future development.
Security & Configuration Highlights (Major Changes):
- Secure Multi-Key Management: API keys are now stored securely using VS Code's built-in
SecretStorageinstead of insecure workspace or global configuration settings. - API Key Management Panel: A new dedicated UI panel has been added to the sidebar (accessible via the new gear icon) to manage multiple named API keys, select the active key, and securely delete stored credentials.
- Removal of In-Editor Edits: The experimental and unstable native in-editor replacement feature (including the
Alt+A/Alt+Rcommands) has been removed. All suggestions now flow directly into the chat panel with clearInsertorReplace Selectionbuttons, improving predictability and reliability.
Enhancements:
- Persistent Chat History: Chat messages are now persisted locally within your VS Code session, surviving reloads and window switches.
- Active File Context: The name of the currently active editor file is now displayed in the context header for better situational awareness during chat sessions.
- Code Cleanup: Improved architecture by refactoring API key dependency injection across the chat provider and inline completion provider.
Breaking Changes for Users:
- Existing API keys stored in
gemini.apiKeyconfiguration are no longer used. Users must re-enter their keys via the new Key Management panel (gear icon).
