DQIX Enhanced v31: widescreen your way, single screen, reset, volume and your own controls.
What's new since v30
- Widescreen, two kinds (View or Modern menu):
- Widescreen (the new usual one): the action is always the big
picture, the field while exploring and the fight in battles, and the
other screen (the map, the battle commands) sits small in a corner.
K or the right stick click moves it to the next corner
(clockwise), I changes its size (small, medium, large), O or the
left stick click how see-through it is. It starts medium, top left,
at 50%, and turns solid while the mouse is on it. - Widescreen, dynamic (experimental): the one from before, where the
field slides over to make room for menus. - Both start at 50% see-through now (once; after that your choice stays).
- Widescreen (the new usual one): the action is always the big
- Single screen: U or the left trigger shows only one screen, as
big as it gets (the bottom one first); F9 or the right trigger
switches to the other. In widescreen the left trigger hides the small
screen instead, and holding the right trigger (or F9) shows it big until
you let go. - Reset without closing the game: Game > Reset (it asks first),
Ctrl+R, or hold Start + Select + L + R on a controller for a second.
Not while playing with friends far away. - Volume: Game > Volume (a slider, live), - and =, and Mute.
- Controls: Game > Controls changes any key or controller button, for
the DS's buttons and every shortcut; up to two keys and one controller
button for each. A key that another action had moves over to it (they
swap); Restore defaults puts everything back. Saved incontrols.ini
(which you can also edit by hand). The sticks stay as they are. - Fixed: in Enhanced mode the character and the items on the equipment
screen were see-through. (The DS blends its 3D over the menu by the 3D's
own opacity; Enhanced used the menu's half-and-half setting instead.) - A window you sized yourself keeps its size when you swap the screens,
and its zoom when you switch to single screen or another layout (only
Window size and Actual size set a size). - Fixed: purple flashes in widescreen at scene changes, leaving town and
going into battles (the black frame of a change was drawn without its 3D
for a moment, showing the game's magenta backdrop).
How to install: download Source code (zip) below, unzip it and
double-click Install Dragon Quest IX.bat. Already on v30? The game
offers the update when it starts (or Help > Check for updates): your saves
and settings are kept. Widescreen's small screen starts at 50% see-through
once after the update.
Playing with friends: everyone needs the same version, so all of you
update to v31.
The plans for what comes next (Linux and Steam Deck) are in ROADMAP.md.
