Welcome to the official technical documentation and user guide for MovieNight — the private, serverless, peer-to-peer virtual screening room and watch party platform.
- 📖 User Guide & Room Controls: Complete manual on hosting, joining rooms, streaming local videos, URLs, and YouTube.
- 🏗️ WebRTC & Sync Engine Architecture: Deep-dive into RFC 4566 SDP munging, 12 Mbps bitrate tuning, and drift correction.
- 🌐 Self-Hosting & Deployment Guide: Deploying to GitHub Pages, VPS with PM2, Docker, and configuring the CORS proxy.
- 🛠️ Troubleshooting & FAQ: Solutions for NAT/firewall traversal, browser autoplay permissions, and CORS video errors.
MovieNight was built around three fundamental pillars:
- Zero-Knowledge Privacy: No accounts, no central servers relaying frames, and no databases logging conversations. Decoded media tracks stay strictly between peer browsers.
- True 1080p Fidelity: Traditional screen shares compress video to blurry 360p or demand paid subscriptions. MovieNight forces the browser encoder to preserve native Full HD resolution and multi-channel audio.
- Sub-Second Lock-Step Sync: When the host or presenter hits pause, seeks, or buffers, all participants align within milliseconds.
