This release reverts the work done in release 1.16.0 for issue #374.
This was done due to a severe performance regression seen in doing an example dogfood merge of the Kinetic Merge repository using the 1.16.0 release; this release fixes that (and now shows a much better merge result than releases prior to 1.16.0).
