v1.2.0 — Board controls, Piece Vision Overlay and configurable ticks
Changes since 1.1.3:
- Enable coordinate input across Chess.com board routes, including puzzles,
variants and observed games; select the visible active board independently
from the primary timer board. - Cancel the file preview by pressing its letter again without deselecting the
host piece. Cancel all queued premoves without a Cancel button, including
during the opponent's turn and with keyboard board control disabled. - Recognize legacy and suffixed Chess.com primary button classes for move
confirmation, cancellation and pending-confirmation timing. - Rename the visual helper to Piece Vision Overlay. Support ongoing Daily
analysis, named bot routes, Game Review routes and Rated/Daily/Learning
puzzles, including navigation and review states. Keep Rush/Battle excluded. - Render pieces above the mask and distinguish squares unseen by both sides
with darker fog and sparse diagonal stripes. - Add Auto, Increment and fixed 2/5/10/15/20/30-second tick intervals plus
0–100% volume. Auto is silent without a known initial time. Frequency changes
restart timing; volume changes preserve it. - Fit popup settings and the privacy footer within browser popup height.
- Refresh English/Ukrainian instructions, support and privacy pages; consolidate
architecture and validation documentation. Remove superseded release plans,
session reports and internal store-preparation material from the current tree.
The only extension permission remains storage; helper injection now matches
all https://www.chess.com/* routes. Runtime overlay restrictions still apply.
No dependencies, telemetry or game-history storage were added. Existing
preferences are retained; missing tick options default to Auto and 50% volume.
Validation: 99 Node tests, JavaScript syntax checks, diff checks and all 16 browser confirmation-button fixture checks passed. The runtime-only ZIP contains 22 validated files. Commit and tag GPG signatures were verified. Historical runtime coverage and remaining limits are documented in docs/validation.md.
v1.1.3
v1.1.3 — Keyboard controls after game completion
- Restore keyboard coordinate entry when a completed standard game switches to analysis while retaining
/game/<numeric-id>(PR #16). - Support completed observing reviews on direct game URLs as well as live/daily URLs.
- Keep unfinished live-game analysis disabled, preserve daily analysis, clear input across mode transitions, and keep turn ticking disabled in analysis/review.
No new permissions, dependencies, storage migrations, or telemetry. Chrome Sync applies only to shortcut preferences; board-helper preferences remain local.
Validation: 75 Node tests passed, JavaScript syntax checks and package validation passed. The owner confirmed the installed Safari fix works after review and merge. Chrome store submission and signed macOS packaging are separate from the GitHub release.
v1.1.2 — Pawn fog and keyboard fixes
v1.1.2 — Pawn fog, human keyboard controls, and store preparation
- Fix pawn fog visibility to follow capture diagonals rather than forward movement (PR #13).
- Restore keyboard coordinate controls for human games opened at
/game/<numeric-id>(PR #14). - Enable keyboard input in native daily-game analysis and clear buffered input when switching between analysis and playing (PR #15).
- Use Chess Board Tools consistently in the manifest, toolbar title, and popup.
- Include system light/dark popup appearance from PR #12 (issue #11), preserving native controls and settings behavior.
- Prepare English/Ukrainian store descriptions, review instructions, support/privacy pages, store artwork, and a macOS packaging handoff.
- Add deterministic runtime-only ZIP packaging with SHA-256, provenance, and signed-tag verification for final builds.
No new permissions, dependencies, storage migrations, or telemetry were added. Chrome Sync applies to shortcut preferences; fog and board helpers stay local. Safari setting synchronization is not promised.
This version is a local release candidate until its commit and tag are manually signed. Support/privacy pages are deployed; all five public pages returned HTTP 200 on 2026-10-10. Store enrollment, real cross-device Sync, signed Safari packaging, and store submission remain separate gates; see manual-release-steps.uk.md and store-preparation-validation.md.
v1.1.1 — Shortcut sync and completed game reviews
v1.1.1 — Shortcut sync and completed game reviews
Changes
- Keep popup shortcuts consistent with incoming Chrome Sync changes, including delayed reads and saves. Fixes #3.
- Clarify shortcut synchronization and local preferences in both privacy descriptions. Fixes #2.
- Keep the full native promotion picker, including cancellation, above fog. Fixes #4.
- Support keyboard board controls and optional fog in completed standard game reviews.
- Show the selected file immediately after a coordinate letter and outline the square after its rank.
- Document temporary Safari extension reloads and rename the repository and README project title to Chess Board Tools.
No permissions, dependencies, or storage migrations were added. Optional helpers remain disabled by default. Fog remains unavailable in active human games.
Validation
67 Node tests, JavaScript syntax checks, and diff checks passed. Automated Codex review of feature commit 8357995 completed without findings; GitGuardian passed.
Chrome checks covered storage events, completed reviews, promotion and cancellation with both colors and orientations, 20%/80% fog, and light/dark page presentation. Safari 27.0.1 checks covered native keyboard input in analysis and completed reviews, all promotion pieces with both colors and orientations, and native cancellation.
Actual two-device Sync, active human-game input, older Safari versions, and Safari packaging/distribution were not tested. See docs/issues-and-review-validation.md for detailed evidence and limits.
The ZIP contains the unpacked extension. It does not install or reload Safari.
v1.1.0 — Keyboard control and thinking timer
New features
- Optional keyboard board control: type b then 2 to select b2, then another coordinate to click its destination. Coordinates stay algebraic when flipped. The five-second indicator clears on focus and board changes; q/r/b/n select promotion pieces. All extension keyboard controls pause in input fields.
- Optional quiet thinking ticks every ten seconds of your own active turn, including pending confirmation. Interact with the visible game tab to activate audio. Hidden tabs stay silent and missed ticks are not replayed.
- Both helpers are disabled by default and save preferences locally. Fog retains its existing bot/analysis scope.
Reliability fixes
Turn timing survives board rerenders, pending confirmation is bound to its session/player color, and enabling ticks under an existing prompt starts a new clock. Closed audio contexts cannot affect resumed sessions. Audio activation uses eligible mouse, touch/pen and keyboard events.
Validation
53 Node tests, all JavaScript syntax checks and diff checks passed. Codex's final feature review completed without new findings; all five threads are resolved. Isolated Chrome checks covered bots and analysis, keyboard orientations/focus/promotion, popup layout, audio activation/restoration and background timing.
Active human live/daily native confirmation, Safari and physical touch/pen are not runtime verified. Chess.com may report keyboard-generated pointer events as synthetic; the extension does not bypass those checks. No permissions or dependencies were added.
The ZIP contains the unpacked extension source. This release does not install or reload Safari.
v1.0.0 — Fog of War and settings fixes
First stable release of Chess.com Confirm Move Hotkeys, including optional semi-transparent Fog of War for bots and analysis.
- Confirmation: Enter, Space, or Ctrl. Cancellation: Esc, Space, or Ctrl. Defaults: Space and Esc.
- Ctrl acts only when pressed and released alone; keyboard actions pause while input/editable fields have focus.
- Auto fog uses your known player color, otherwise the bottom side, including board flips.
- Compact popup without unnecessary scrolling when its contents fit.
Download the attached ZIP, extract it, and load the directory containing manifest.json as an unpacked extension. Reload the extension and Chess.com tabs after updating.
Validation: 28 Node tests and changed-script syntax checks passed. Shared fixes were exercised in Chrome for Testing. Safari runtime and real confirmation prompts remain unverified; no existing Safari installation was changed. Keyboard board control and thinking ticks are not included in this release.
