🧪 samOS Alpha 25.2 Release

Welcome to the Alpha 25.2 build of samOS 🎉
This release marks a step forward from the pre-alpha stage, bringing a more refined kernel and a better desktop experience. While samOS is still experimental, it’s slowly evolving into a usable operating system.

For now, samOS should only be run inside virtual machines such as QEMU 💻.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • 🛠️ Kernel Improvements – Compared to the pre-alpha, the kernel is more stable and efficient. Hardware support is still limited, and samOS cannot yet run reliably on bare-metal systems.
  • 🖥️ Desktop Environment – The desktop has received noticeable improvements in usability and visuals. Expect missing features, occasional instability, and incomplete functionality.
  • 🔑 Bootloader Installed – Unlike the pre-alpha, Alpha 25.2 ships with a bootloader already installed.
  • 💾 Ready-to-Use Image – The entire operating system is provided as a single .img file, so you don’t need to manually set up the rootfs.
  • 🔐 Login & Password – The system is password-free for testing. If needed, use the password: Live.
  • ⚡ Portable VM Scripts – Inside the system folder, you’ll find lightweight portable virtual machines for both Windows and Unix-like systems. Just double-click the provided script to launch samOS — no manual VM setup required.

🔮 What This Means
This Alpha release is still not ready for daily use. It is intended for testing, experimentation, and feedback.

  • Runs only in virtual machines.
  • Not optimized for real hardware.
  • Expect bugs, crashes, and incomplete features.

Future releases will continue to improve kernel stability, add firmware support, and polish the desktop environment ✨.
