What's new in Equinox Local 6.1.2
Signed Stable release for macOS and Windows, ARM64 and x64.
A reliability-focused release for Main updates, Windows desktop and terminal integration, and browser-aware task timing. Includes signed macOS and Windows builds for ARM64 and x64.
Updates and rollback
- Verify the version that is actually running. Main update and Doctor checks now verify worker ownership, source/native identity, and the active runtime instead of relying on a source pointer, version label, or stale worker PID alone.
- Recover interrupted Main updates more safely. Tightened staging, atomic promotion, and rollback when Windows file locks or a failed worker handoff interrupt source/native replacement. Native rollback restores the previous app/shell ownership consistently.
- Avoid stale installations after a successful update. Main activation reconciles the selected native package with the promoted source. Superseded Stable release trees and versioned managed toolchains are cleaned up only after healthy activation, retaining recovery state when a transition fails.
- Improve install and recovery tests. Added Windows x64/ARM64 installed-upgrade and rollback coverage, native worker process-identity checks, and macOS historical installed-Main acceptance improvements. Existing user settings remain outside the replaced runtime.
Windows Control Center and performance
- More reliable first launch. Improved Windows native Control Center/WebView2 startup while the backend becomes ready, plus update-status refresh and actionable diagnostics instead of misleading Main status.
- Lower background overhead. Reduced expensive Doctor fingerprint checks and unnecessary page activity; adjusted native host graphics preferences to reduce unwanted activation of the discrete GPU. GPU behavior still depends on Windows and graphics drivers.
- Restore desktop automation. Fixed the required WinApp integration and the screenshot result format: validated captures now arrive as native MCP image content, including when the tool was also asked to save a file, with temporary files cleaned up.
- Make terminal health meaningful. Doctor's explicit terminal check detects missing native command output and false successful exit codes.
Windows terminals and processes
- New finite CMD shell.
terminal_execsupportsshell: "cmd"for managed native/CMD commands, without routing them through PowerShell 5.1's unreliable native call operator. Interactive terminals remain PowerShell-based. - Optional PowerShell 7.
shell: "pwsh"is supported in finite and interactive terminal tools when PowerShell 7 is installed; Windows PowerShell 5.1 remains the default. No PowerShell installation is bundled or performed, and unavailablepwshfails with an actionable error. - Repair executable discovery. Restored trusted machine/user PATH and PATHEXT entries in managed Windows process environments, including Microsoft Store / MSIX WindowsApps execution aliases. This fixes cases where executables were treated as documents or silently failed to start.
- Make managed processes less visible and more predictable. Improved the no-console Job Object helper,
CreateProcessWnative launch, Windows 11 24H2+ console handling, and single-owner ConPTY startup to prevent unnecessary terminal windows. Fixed stdout/stderr, exit-code, background CMD/batch execution, and process-shutdown acknowledgment. - Retain a known PowerShell limitation. These changes do not modify PowerShell 5.1's native
&operator. For affected native commands, use explicit CMD, an installed PowerShell 7, or the directly managed process tools.
Browser and Turn Budget
- Start the clock when ChatGPT actually starts generating. The browser observer passes the generation-start timestamp through Equinox Browser and the Local bridge, so a late first tool call does not restart the Browser Turn Budget.
- Observe turns before tool calls. Lightweight browser polling and bounded timestamp validation keep Browser-based timing independent of when Equinox Local is first invoked; the existing fallback is retained when no reliable browser turn identity is available.
- Equinox Browser v1.0.1 has been submitted to Chrome Web Store separately. Its rollout follows Store review; installing Equinox Local 6.1.2 does not install or sideload the extension.
Validation and distribution
- Four-platform Release Validation passed for macOS ARM64/x64 and Windows ARM64/x64, followed by factory tests, signed artifact verification, and live download/manifest checks.
- The real 6.1.1 → 6.1.2 managed upgrade smoke test passed. The Mac Developer factory was independently restarted and verified against the actual running source/native identity; the Windows managed Main installation was checked on the user's device.
- Release identity: signed Stable v6.1.2 targets canonical source
66786207350cc809b44fc5c376eba8912b35fa47. The admitted Main snapshot remainsa70b6219e41036d39b1850c39c16a92b5d4dbcd5because the later release commit changed only release documentation; both contain the same product code.
