Since the July launch

  • the interface runs on the stock 1.12 UI files, from the character sheet and talents to the chat window, quest log, world map and auction house
  • 1.12 addons load from benilla-config/AddOns: Questie, pfUI, Bagnon, AtlasLoot, Auctioneer and many more
  • battlegrounds are in: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley
  • the auction house, mail, trade, the stable master and meeting stones are in
  • the guild window, guild charters and the tabard designer are in
  • the raid tab, master loot, ready checks and the combat log are in
  • hunter and warlock pets get their action bar, frame and spellbook tab
  • macros, rebindable keys and the options window are in, and your settings are kept
  • fishing, rested experience, duels, inspect and quest sharing are in
  • death plays out whole: your corpse, the ghost world, the spirit healer and resurrection
  • a realm list after login, and a Realmlist button on the login screen to change server
  • the intro cinematics play
  • sound is in throughout: combat, footsteps, placed objects and zone music, on macOS, Linux and Windows
  • snow and rain, the underwater view, and water that sits only where the map puts it
  • about a third less CPU per frame, lighter on integrated and weaker GPUs, with borderless fullscreen and a render scale
  • cMaNGOS servers work, with Warden off
  • screenshots go to benilla-config/Screenshots, and a crash leaves a report in benilla-config/Diagnostics

In this release

  • benilla has releases now: this is 0.2.0, and the build line the client prints at startup names it (#38)
  • what you type in General, Trade and the other numbered channels reaches them (#222)
  • a new account or an empty realm opens on the empty character list, with no character made for you (#343)
  • on a server with realms in several categories, the realm list has a tab for each (#362)
  • targeting an NPC whose faction you are Exalted with no longer throws a script error (#440)
  • Resurrection, Redemption and Rebirth reach a party member who has already released: click their corpse (#450)
  • a friendly spell or a resurrection with no target brings up the targeting cursor, and Auto Self Cast starts off (#445 by @Onixaz)
  • quests print their chat lines: quest accepted, completed, and the experience, money and items you get (#69)
  • floating combat text shows partial resists, blocks and absorbs, on damage over time too (#42, #43, #89, #349)
  • joining or leaving a party or raid prints one line, not one per member (#264, #268, #270)
  • a player joining your group plays the join chime (#269)
  • the glow on whatever is under your mouse follows the time of day and the weather
  • dead or a ghost, your action bar stays grey and you can't attack (#246, #248, #250)
  • the sword cursor stays away while you're mounted, pacified or dead (#251)
  • the loot window closes when you pick another target, and closing it clears a looted corpse from your target (#71, #238)
  • repairs and flight paths cost less at Honored and with a PvP rank (#411, #434)
  • repair mode clicks bags and gear the right way, ends on a right-click in the world or a readied spell, and greys out Repair All once you're done (#378 by @Onixaz, #417, #420, #422)
  • a repair you can't afford says you don't have enough money (#412)
  • a trainer's ability icon shows its tooltip on the first hover (#158 by @Onixaz)
  • /dnd clears your AFK (#186 by @KodYazicam)

Known issues

  • On cMaNGOS servers with playerbots, a bot can float above the ground where its path crosses a dip (#461).

Updating

  • Settings, key bindings, macros, addons and their saved settings live in benilla-config/ at the repo root. Git leaves that folder alone, so checking out a release keeps them.
  • Auto Self Cast now starts off. If you never changed it, a heal or buff with no friendly target now brings up the targeting cursor instead of landing on you. It is under Options, Controls.

Running this release

benilla runs against an English 1.12.1 client (build 5875) and any 1.12.1 server with Warden off, such as vmangos or cMaNGOS. From a clone:

git checkout v0.2.0
WOW_DATA=/path/to/WoW/Data cargo run --release -p benilla

The first build fetches Rust 1.98.1 through rustup. The README has the rest. A bug report quotes the benilla build line the client prints at startup.
