Requirements are unchanged: Windows 10 / 11 x64, ESP-IDF v5.5, git, and an API key for an OpenAI-compatible model with tool calling.

Fixes

• Stop works while a goal is planning or verifying. In goal mode, pressing Stop while the goal planner or the independent verifier was running had no visible effect: they run as sub-agents, so they kept going, and the goal only stopped after the planner had finished its plan. Stop now ends them right away and the goal shows as stopped. A flash that is already in progress still finishes first, so the board is never left with half-written firmware.

New

• Interface language: English / 中文. Switch it in Settings → General → Language or in the header of the setup guide. It takes effect immediately, is remembered on this machine, and English stays the default.
  • Covers the whole interface, plus text coming from the agent core: approval reasons and options, tool errors, flash and build progress, crash summaries, ESP-IDF checks and goal-mode results. Earlier sessions are shown in the selected language too.
  • In Chinese, links to Espressif's guides open the Chinese version.
  • Not translated: the agent's replies (it answers in the language you write in), raw output such as build logs and serial output, and everything sent to the model.

Fixes

• Stop no longer cuts a flash in half. Pressing Stop while the agent is flashing now lets that step finish, then ends the turn. Killing esptool mid-write could leave a half-written image on the board. A flash that has not started yet is skipped. "Send now" already behaved this way.
• Compaction keeps track of the firmware on the board. The "current state" block written at compaction time now reports a flash made earlier in the same turn; before, it only looked at checkpoints, which are recorded at the end of a turn. It also reports the right firmware after a restore without reflashing, and works in projects without checkpoints.

Firmwright 0.1.0 (Early Preview)

• An API key for an OpenAI-compatible model that supports tool calling (presets: DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM, Kimi, SiliconFlow)

What's in 0.1.0

• Device in the loop: build, flash, reset, serial capture and crash diagnosis as first-class tools; all 8 ESP-IDF v5.5 chips
• Hardware events pushed into the agent loop: panics, watchdog resets, brownouts and reboot loops, with backtraces decoded (Xtensa and RISC-V)
• Agent / Plan / Goal modes; Goal mode uses an independent verifier that checks on the device
• Isolated sessions: one git worktree per session, a checkpoint per turn with the flashed firmware archived; restore and reflash, merge, apply or export a patch
• Context engineering: compaction, skills, cross-session memory, PDF datasheets, MCP servers
• Permissions with hardware risk tiers (eFuse burning is always blocked)
• First-run setup, a full settings page, light / dark themes

Known limitations

• Windows only; ESP-IDF only; OpenAI-compatible APIs only
• Daily use on an ESP32-S3; other chips are covered by the capability table and QEMU, not yet by real boards
