• Layer.add_mag_as_ref, and so Dataset.add_layer_as_ref and Dataset.shallow_copy_dataset, validate the data format and dtype of any foreign mag against its properties instead of opening its array. Referencing a layer that itself references data this machine can't read, e.g. on S3 without credentials, no longer fails. #1562
