Perform a complete reset

Before proceeding with a full reset, we need to highlight the differences that Compliance Utility offers in terms of resets.
I will explain the differences in more detail here.

🟦Permissions matter

At least there is only one argument described that allows you to initiate a reset. Normally, you run the Compliance Utility as a user with user privileges. You can also run the Compliance Utility with local administrative privileges.

Depending on your permissions, more or fewer settings will be removed during a reset.

All settings that are removed by a reset with user permissions or administrator permissions are listed in the .

🟦When to reset with user permissions?

Resetting with user permissions removes all relevant user-specific settings, labels, and policies for Microsoft 365 apps.
Like you have never used any information protection or sensitivity feature in Microsoft 365 before.

Note

This is sufficient in most cases to reset Microsoft 365 apps.

🟦When to perform a full reset?

If you want to perform a complete reset, you must run the Compliance Utility with administrative privileges. Resetting with administrator permissions removes all relevant settings, labels, and policies from the client machine.

This will reset all settings for all other applications, such as the Purview Information Protection Labeling Client.
