Screwbot Public Licence (SPL) v1.0

Copyright © [2024] Screwbot (https://github.com/screwbot) All rights reserved.

1. Purpose and Scope

This licence governs the usage of the software and any associated files, assets, or documentation (collectively referred to as the “Software”) released under the name “Screwbot” by its original author(s). By using, accessing, or distributing the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this licence.

This is a permissive use-only licence, not an open-source or free software licence in the traditional sense. While it grants the freedom to use and share the Software, it strictly prohibits modification, commercialization, or misattribution.

2. Grant of Use

You are hereby granted a revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive, and royalty-free licence to:

  • Use the Software in its original, unmodified form for personal, educational, research, or internal use;
  • Share or redistribute the original, unmodified Software (including all source files and documentation) only with a full, verbatim copy of this licence included.

This licence does not allow:

  • Modification,
  • Derivative works,
  • Commercial use,
  • Omission of attribution,
  • Sub-licensing,
  • Integration into other projects (whether open source or proprietary).

3. Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Modify, alter, adapt, translate, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works of the Software;
  • Combine or merge any portion of the Software into another project, whether open-source, commercial, or proprietary;
  • Use the Software as part of any project, service, or product that is sold, licensed, or monetized in any way;
  • Distribute the Software without including this licence in its original and complete form;
  • Claim ownership, authorship, or misrepresent the origin or authorship of the Software;
  • Use the Screwbot name, logo, or any related branding for endorsement or promotional purposes without explicit written permission.

4. Attribution Requirements

In any and all permitted uses, redistributions, or demonstrations of the Software, you must provide clear and unambiguous credit to the original creator as follows:

Screwbot – https://github.com/screwbot

This credit must be visible in documentation, user interfaces, readme files, public demonstrations, or wherever else the Software is made available.

5. Commercial Use Prohibited

Under no circumstances may the Software be sold, leased, licensed, rented, or otherwise used for any commercial or revenue-generating purpose, including but not limited to:

  • Inclusion in paid software or services;
  • Use in advertising or promotional material;
  • Monetized training datasets;
  • SaaS platforms;
  • NFT/tokenization.

Violation of this section constitutes immediate and automatic termination of this licence.

6. Termination

This licence is effective until terminated. It will terminate automatically and immediately without notice if you breach any of its terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use and distribution of the Software and destroy all copies in your possession.

7. Disclaimer of Warranty

The Software is provided “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. The entire risk arising out of the use or performance of the Software remains with you.

8. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall the authors, contributors, or copyright holders of the Software be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability—whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise—arising from, out of, or in connection with the Software or the use or other dealings in the Software.

9. Governing Law

This licence shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction of the original author(s), unless otherwise agreed in writing. Any disputes arising under this licence shall be resolved in that jurisdiction.

10. Entire Agreement

This licence constitutes the complete and exclusive agreement between the parties with respect to the Software and supersedes all prior understandings, communications, or agreements, oral or written.

Summary

  • ✅ You can use and share the original Software
  • ❌ You cannot modify, sell, or claim it as your own
  • ✅ You must credit Screwbot: https://github.com/screwbot
  • ❌ No commercial use, derivative works, or rebranding version this further (e.g., v1.1, v2.0) or make it compatible with international enforcement.
