GENESIS 0.13.0 - World Recovery and Windows Installer

Install and launch

  • Recommended: download GENESIS-0.13.0-windows-x64-setup.exe, run setup, then launch from Start > GENESIS. Per-user installation; no administrator privileges or separate Python installation required. Desktop shortcut is optional.
  • Portable: download GENESIS-0.13.0-windows-x64.zip, extract the entire archive, and run GENESIS.exe inside the GENESIS folder. Keep _internal beside it.
  • Windows 10/11 x64. This build is unsigned.

Included

  • Corrected ecosystem balance with dietary niches, predator/prey interactions and body-size trait colors.
  • Neon visuals, glass controls, camera/follow, habitats, environmental events, observatory, lineage and CSV exports.
  • Optional autosave (enabled by default): changed worlds checkpoint every two wall-clock minutes, with latest/previous recovery snapshots and explicit paused resume on startup.
  • Installer upgrade/uninstall preserves preferences, saves and recovery data. Close GENESIS before updating. Portable and installed copies share the default user-data directory; avoid running both concurrently.
  • Only corrected simulation rules are available; obsolete-rule worlds cannot be loaded.

Validation and limitations

  • 194 regression tests passed for this build.
  • Packaged controls, save/load, exports, exact continuation, recovery across launches and preferences passed scripted checks on the development machine.
  • Installer payload, shortcut paths, installed launch, same-version upgrade and uninstall/data preservation were checked.
  • Installer wizard/Launch checkbox hands-on checks, a different-version upgrade, and another Windows computer without Python remain pending.
  • Recovery can lose changes since the last completed checkpoint; slow storage can extend that interval and delay shutdown.
  • Balance trials retained both species for one simulated hour in 10/10 held-out normal runs and 9/10 stressed runs. Extinction remains possible; indefinite survival is not guaranteed.
