Foolscap 0.11.0

Tabs are back, and this time they're ours — hand-rolled in the titlebar where the native ones fought the frameless chrome and lost (v0.3.3, rest in peace). ⌘T opens a document beside the current one; drag a tab out and it becomes a window; session restore remembers the whole arrangement. Also: drag-to-resize table columns — widths are written into the source as real padding, because the file is the truth — a text column that follows the window, and preview exits that land where you were reading. Nearly all of it from @productengineered (#34).

Foolscap 0.10.1

The gutter glyph beside ordered lists now shows the item's own number instead of a fixed 1. — no more phantom numbering beside item 2 (#33, thanks @skyfriends). The help file also catches up with task lists.

Foolscap 0.10.0

Task lists. - [ ] and - [x] now render as checkboxes in the editor — real, clickable ones. Ticking a box writes the x into your file, because the file is the only state there is. Put your cursor on one and the three characters come back, same as every other mark. Preview, HTML, and PDF render them too, dressed to your theme.

Foolscap 0.8.1

Toast etiquette. Notices now hold a single slot — "Checking for updates…" becomes its answer instead of stacking on it — and the updater announces each version exactly once, instead of again every few hours. Update messages now say which version they mean: "New version x.x.x available!" when you ask, and "Foolscap updated to x.x.x." on the first launch after an update lands.

If you're on 0.7.0 or later, this arrives on its own. That's the whole point.

Foolscap 0.8.0

Check for Updates — in the Help menu, in Settings, and in the palette (⌘K). The background updater stays quiet by design; this is the handle for the impatient moment, and it always answers: update on its way, up to date, or feed unreachable.

If you're on 0.7.0, this release arrives by itself — the first to do so. One toast, one restart, done.

Foolscap 0.7.0

Foolscap now updates itself. It downloads new versions quietly in the background, verifies them against its own code signature, and mentions it exactly once — a small toast when the update is ready. Restart then, or don't: it installs on whatever quit comes naturally. Your open windows and unsaved drafts survive either way, always.

This is the last release most people will ever download by hand.

Foolscap 0.6.1

Signed and notarized. From this release on, Foolscap is stamped with a Developer ID and blessed by Apple's notary service: download, drag to Applications, open. No right-click ritual, no "unidentified developer", no warnings — that era is over.

The release pipeline now refuses to publish unsigned builds, so this is permanent.

The collaboration keeps compounding — this one has a real feature in it.

Formatting commands (#26) — Bold ⌘B, italic ⌘I, strike ⇧⌘X, code ⇧⌘C, and links ⇧⌘K, in the Format menu and the palette. They edit the markdown marks in place, of course — the buffer stays plain text.

Faster where you feel it

• Fences under your caret retokenize on a typing pause instead of every keystroke, and the token cache evicts one entry at a time instead of wholesale (#31)
• PDF export reads and encodes its embedded fonts once, not per print (#30)
• Ioskeley Mono ships as woff2 — the download is ~6 MB lighter (#29)

• Exported headings carry anchor ids, so in-document links work in HTML and PDF (#28)
• A failed image paste tells you instead of dying silently (#27)
