Build 61 – Pairing scheduler independence

Build 61 contains a targeted change for pairing failures seen on some SideStore-resigned installations.

What was happening

SideStore can change Roam Control's bundle identifier when resigning the app.

On affected installations, the runtime bundle identifier could therefore differ from the background-task identifiers contained in the IPA. iOS could reject Roam Control's pairing BGTaskScheduler configuration as a result.

In previous builds, that mismatch could prevent the pairing listener from starting at all.

What changed in Build 61

  • Pairing no longer depends on successful BGTaskScheduler registration or submission.
  • The RPPairing listener now starts directly when a pairing attempt begins.
  • Pairing can continue even when the SideStore runtime bundle identifier does not match the permitted background-task identifier.
  • The scheduler configuration is still retained in diagnostics.
  • A UIKit background-task assertion is used to cover the brief Settings → Developer Mode → Pair with Host transition.
  • Pairing cleanup still occurs on success, failure, cancellation or timeout.
  • Build 60 location-session behaviour is unchanged.

Testing completed

Build 61 has been tested successfully on-device with:

  • Removing an existing pairing
  • Starting a fresh pairing attempt
  • Leaving Roam Control and opening Settings
  • Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode → Pair with Host
  • Completing the 6-digit pairing flow
  • Saving the new pairing record
  • Starting a location session after pairing
  • Stop & Restore

Automated tests covering runtime background-task identifiers, pairing/location pre-registration, failure stages, telemetry/privacy behaviour and Build 61 release invariants also pass.

A clean unsigned Release build for arm64 also completed successfully.

Preview testing

Build 61 was initially released as a Preview while the pairing change was tested across a wider range of SideStore installations.

Following successful real-world testing, Build 61 has now been promoted to the main Roam Control 0.9.2 release.

Settings → Connection Health → Copy Diagnostics

and include the copied diagnostics with your report.

Install the attached RoamControl-0.9.2-build61.ipa through SideStore as normal.
