v1.4.0

OctoLab v1.4.0

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • One notification per to-do, stacked by project like OctoDroid did. Each shows who caused it (their avatar with the project's logo as a badge), what they did, the title and the comment; tapping it opens the issue or merge request at that comment and marks the to-do done, and "Mark as done" is on every notification. Opening To-dos no longer clears them; each goes once its own to-do is done, tapped or swiped away (#178)

Changed

  • README: OctoLab is now in F-Droid; added the "Get it on F-Droid" badge and link as the first install option (#207)
  • The F-Droid summary reads "GitLab client for Android", so searching F-Droid for "gitlab client" finds OctoLab (#218)

Fixed

  • Crash on large issues with many images: "Canvas: trying to use a recycled bitmap" (#208)
  • Tapping one of GitLab's own to-dos, e.g. "Duo Core access granted", crashed the app; to-dos with nothing to open now say so (#212)
  • "Add reaction" on comments in a thread showed the reactions without their icons (#209)
  • The search bar's clear (X) icon was white on the light theme (#211)
  • The comment opened from a notification or to-do is highlighted again (#215)

v1.3.9

OctoLab v1.3.9

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • Resolve and unresolve comment threads from a comment's menu, in issues and merge requests (#206)
  • Issues closed by a merge request show "closed with merge request fmd-server!44 (merged)", linked to the MR, like GitLab web (#200)
  • "Compare with previous version" on a merge request opens that version's changes directly on the commit screen, titled "Version 6 compared with version 5", with its commits listed (#198)

Changed

  • Comments, system notes and descriptions show GitLab's own stored rendering, as GitLab web does, so references stay linked (also to renamed or moved projects), and no rendering request is made per comment (#199)
  • Merge requests are numbered with "!" instead of "#", like GitLab (#204)

Fixed

  • Lighter loading of issues and merge requests: images and video thumbnails load when they come into view, video frames are read one at a time, and photos use half the memory. This addresses slowdowns of the whole phone on issues with many images and videos (#202)
  • "Compare with previous version" froze on versions with thousands of commits, e.g. after a rebase (#198)
  • Links to issues, merge requests and commits weren't clickable on issues of moved or renamed projects, and tables in issue and MR descriptions showed as plain text (#199)
  • Issue and MR screens opened from a link to a moved project showed its old name; they now show the current one (#205)
  • Old-style links without "/-/" (e.g. gitlab.com/Nulide/findmydevice/issues/216) opened as a project and showed 404 (#203)
  • User profiles showed at most 5 repositories; they now show the real count (#201)

Install

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Oct 05:20
v1.3.8

OctoLab v1.3.8

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • Timeline looks like GitLab web: comments in cards, resolved threads collapsed to their first note with "N replies · Last reply by…", "Resolved by…", diff threads with the file and code lines they're about, and quotes that stand out (#179)
  • Label, milestone and state changes show in the timeline, with coloured label chips (#180)
  • Attachments open in-app with your account, never needing a browser login: images in a viewer with pinch-zoom, videos and audio in a player, text files as text, and other files handed to an installed app (#190)
  • Videos in comments show a thumbnail of their first frame with a play button (#191)
  • Edited comments and issue descriptions read "Edited 2 days ago by Jay B", like GitLab web (#151)
  • Wiki page links open in-app, showing GitLab's rendered page (#170)
  • "Compare with previous version" on an MR opens that version's diff, and the Files tab shows real line counts (#184)

Changed

  • People are shown by their display name everywhere, like GitLab web; the issue/MR header and user profile add the @username in smaller, faded text, and "Member since" is a date (#194, #195)
  • Issue lists, counts and empty states say "work items", like the navigation drawer (#196)

Fixed

  • Scrolling an issue or MR no longer makes comments jump as they render, and the scrollbar keeps its size (#152)
  • Tapping an image or video opened it as a project and failed with "404 Project Not Found" (#190)
  • Opening an issue with long comments could freeze the app (#186)
  • Issues with videos hung, ran out of memory and crashed when a link was tapped (#187)
  • Crash opening issues or MRs whose labels use a short colour code such as #efe (#185)
  • Notification project logos were looked up on the active account's instance instead of the notification's (#182)
  • Comments with a table showed as a white box in the card, and descriptions with a table ran to the screen edges (#192)
  • Bot users showed as "****" in comments, system notes, label changes and activity (#193)
  • Issue and commit references (#N, commit SHAs) in comments and system notes were plain text when the issue was opened from the Work items or merge request list, and the commit in "closed via commit" wasn't a link (#197)

@github-actions github-actions released this 29 Sep 10:38
v1.3.7
7584c1d

OctoLab v1.3.7

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • Comment threads on issues and MRs: replies are shown indented under the comment they belong to, and "Reply" on any comment of a thread posts into that thread (#123)
  • Login dialog links to the instance's personal access token page with the required api and read_user scopes pre-filled (#169)
  • Groups: a group screen with the group's projects, members and subgroups; group namespaces (owner taps, Back navigation, links, a user's groups) now open as groups instead of failing as users (#103, #111)
  • Group tree like GitLab web on the group screen and a new Groups drawer entry: expandable subgroups and projects with GitLab's icons, visibility, your role (including inherited), and the group's projects at any depth; Up from a subgroup goes to its parent group (#172)
  • Groups can be sorted by name (default) or last activity, and the choice is remembered (#175)
  • Reactions on commit comments (via GraphQL; GitLab's REST API has no award-emoji endpoint for commit notes), matching issue/MR comment behaviour (#159)
  • Internal and public repos show GitLab's own visibility icons (shield, globe) in the repo list and overview (#145)

Changed

  • GitLab's own icons for projects, work items, snippets and to-dos across the app; drawer labels now read Projects, Groups, Work items, Merge requests and Snippets (#172)

Fixed

  • Links for another instance you are logged in to now open in-app with the matching account — switching automatically for one match, or asking when several match — both from other apps and when tapped inside the app, instead of opening in the browser (#163)
  • Pressing Back after a link switched accounts reloaded the previous screen with the wrong account (404); the previous screen's account is now restored (#163)
  • Manual account switching from the drawer did nothing once display names were shown as "Name (@login)" (#161)
  • Account display names are cached, and avatars for accounts on other instances load correctly
  • Fast scrolling on issues/MRs showed reactions from other comments; reactions now load with the timeline in one GraphQL query instead of per row (#162)
  • Internal and public repos no longer show the private-repo lock icon (#145)
  • Fresh installs no longer create an empty legacy keystore file
  • System notes (e.g. "added N commits") showed raw HTML and markdown; they are now rendered like on GitLab web, with lists, links and linked commit SHAs (#165)
  • Notifications failed to load, in the app and in the background, whenever a to-do pointed at a commit (e.g. a mention in a commit comment); commit to-dos now load and open the commit (#166)
  • Hooray reactions were posted but never shown in the app; they now show, with GitLab's 🎉 party-popper icon instead of a cake (#167)
  • System notification icons used the namespace's initial instead of the project's, unlike To-dos; all project logos now come from one shared helper, and user profiles show group logos (#176)
  • Token login accepted any text and failed silently; tokens are now format-checked, a failed login explains why (rejected, missing scopes, unreachable instance) and keeps the dialog open, and the instance URL is restored (#168)

OctoLab v1.3.6

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Sep 14:46
v1.3.6
76c94fb

OctoLab v1.3.6

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Security

  • GitLab access tokens now stored Keystore-encrypted (AES/GCM), replacing plaintext SharedPreferences that were also a backup candidate
  • Backup and device-transfer scope corrected to an explicit allowlist (only named files are ever eligible)
  • WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE scoped to API ≤28 — a no-op on modern targetSdk, still declared unconditionally before
  • F-Droid store listing now explains the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission
  • Legacy gh4a-era internal file names (SharedPreferences, SQLite database, encrypted token store) renamed to match the app's actual package, with upgrade migrations so existing installs don't lose settings or get logged out

Fixed

  • Square project logos no longer padded inside their frame — extended to logos of any aspect ratio and the initials-tile placeholder, both now keep a consistent hairline inset instead of rendering flush or shrunk (#158)
  • Pre-login welcome screen now properly adapts to light/dark theme instead of always rendering with a dark backdrop
  • Login button has a visible border instead of blending into its background
  • Notification project icons no longer blank for projects without an uploaded avatar — reuse the same resolution used in-app, including inherited group logos, falling back to the colored initials tile (#160)
  • Notification status-bar icon was invisible on all themes (regressed by an August theme-audit commit that swapped its fixed white fill for a theme-relative attribute status-bar icons don't resolve)

OctoLab v1.3.5

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Aug 12:39
v1.3.5
3d5a929

OctoLab v1.3.5

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Fixed

  • Root-relative image paths (src="/logo.svg") in markdown files opened from the Files section were 404ing instead of loading
  • External image URLs in issue/MR descriptions and comments now load instead of getting stuck on the loading placeholder forever (#150)
  • Project/group avatars now render as rounded-square consistently — the real logo image, the initials placeholder, and the row's background frame all agree (#158)
  • Avatar initials-tile palette (background and text) now matches GitLab's own identicon colours instead of an ad-hoc Material palette, WCAG AA verified in both themes (#158)

Added

  • verify:reproducible CI job, gates release on it (#64)

Changed

  • F-Droid store listing metadata (title, description, icon, screenshots) replaced with real OctoLab content — was unedited OctoDroid/gh4a placeholder content (#57)

OctoLab v1.3.4

@github-actions github-actions released this 18 Aug 12:53
v1.3.4
7f2c3b2

OctoLab v1.3.4

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Fixed

  • WCAG AA colour contrast across the full light theme — toolbar, badges, tabs, diff viewer, dialogs, popup menus, markdown editor (#146, #147, #148)
  • WCAG AA dark theme — Pajamas dark colour palette applied throughout, matching the light-theme rework (#153)
  • MR closed-without-merge now uses a distinct red, separate from issue-closed blue
  • Light-theme surface restored to v1.3.3's warmer off-white (#FFFFF5) — higher contrast than the interim #F0F0F5 — and applied consistently to the nav drawer and toolbar/nav grey, which had drifted to a mismatched cooler tone
  • Notification channel is now created at app startup instead of only from the settings toggle's change listener, which never fired for installs that never touched the toggle (notifications default to enabled) — the channel was never registered, so the OS silently dropped every notification even though the worker reported success
  • In-app to-do list no longer drops the author's name for the "marked as to-do" action

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Fixed

  • Project visibility now shown for all visibility states (Private / Internal / Public) in My Repos, Stars, Bookmarks, and the repo detail view — previously only Private was labelled (#145)

Changed

  • README hyperlinks in dark theme now use a lighter sky blue (#9dc7f1) for better contrast; light theme retains the original blue (#4183C4)

v1.3.2
42db564

OctoLab v1.3.2

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • Project and group avatars now shown in My Repos and Stars lists — falls back to parent group avatar when the project has no avatar set; group avatar fetched via authenticated API endpoint (#141)

Fixed

  • Group avatars with white or light-coloured logos are now visible in light theme — subtle oval background provides contrast without a visible border (#141)
  • Group/project logos no longer cropped at corners — rendered as rounded rectangle (20% radius) instead of full circle; non-square logos are padded to a square canvas to prevent centre-crop clipping; disk-cache path now applies the same treatment as the network path (#141)
  • Editing an issue now pre-populates existing assignees, labels, and milestone instead of starting blank (#142)

OctoLab v1.3.1

A free and open-source Android client for GitLab — supports self-hosted instances and gitlab.com.

Added

  • Settings → Notification Worker: new "Recent runs" log showing the last 20 worker executions with timestamps and outcomes (OK / FAILED with error type) (#128)

Fixed

  • Tapping a to-do notification now scrolls to the specific comment that triggered it for both issues and MRs; MR notes are now fully paginated so scroll works regardless of comment count (#102)
  • Repo sub-sections (Contributors, Files, Forks, Stars, etc.) and deep links now work for repositories nested more than two groups deep and for repos with spaces in the display name (#125)
  • Deep links for the configured GitLab instance now open in-app for repos at any group nesting depth (#127)
  • Account avatars are now shown from disk cache when the network is unreachable, for both active and inactive accounts in the side panel (#143)
  • Notification workers no longer conflict when multiple app variants (debug, internal, release) are installed on the same device — each variant now uses a unique WorkManager tag (#128)
  • Worker "Last synced" time now reflects every successful API poll, not only polls that found new notifications (#128)
