FAQ

Answers to common questions from translators and developers. If your question is not here, open an issue or write to lang@selldone.com.

Which language is the reference?

English. Every file in every language mirrors the English file (en.ts, or backend/lang/en/ for PHP). Compare with English before you change anything.

I found a wrong translation. What is the fastest way to report it?

Open an issue with the language, the current text and your suggestion, or send the original and corrected versions to @SelldoneInc or lang@selldone.com. If you are comfortable with GitHub, a pull request is even better; see Contributing Translations.

Can I translate the variables like :name or {name}?

No. Variables must stay exactly as in English. You may move them within the sentence, but do not rename, translate or remove them. See Translator Rules.

How do I find where a text is used?

Search for the English sentence in shop/en.ts, dashboard/en.ts, global/en.ts or backend/lang/en/. Many groups of keys have a comment such as /** @see SFooterSection **/ that names the component that shows them.

What does "Fully Human Translation" mean in the languages table?

It marks languages (or surfaces, for example Shop(✓) for Arabic) whose texts have been fully translated by people. Corrections from native speakers are welcome for every language, and especially for languages without this mark.

My language is not in the list. Can I add it?

Open an issue first so maintainers can confirm the language code and set up the files. New languages need files in every pack (dashboard/, shop/, global/, service/, backend/lang/) and support in the apps that load them.

Why is a country name or a help page still in English?

Some packs exist only for a subset of languages: global/countries/ has 18 languages, and service/help/ and service/internal-pages/ have only a few. Apps fall back to English (fallbackLocale: "en") when a text is missing.

I only want different wording in my own shop.

You do not need to change this repository. Merchants can override the global and shop texts for their shop, and the Storefront merges those overrides at runtime. See Using the npm Package.

When will my merged change appear in Selldone?

Merged changes are included in the next published version of the @selldone/translate npm package. Apps that depend on the package, including custom Layouts, get them after they update the dependency and rebuild.

Is the content licensed?

Yes. The repository is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0; see LICENSE.
