Echelons
Echelons are the planet's layers. Deeper, and it gets darker; the pressure compacts your body, making it difficult to breathe even with an oxygen tank. The creatures within benefit from this pressure, and tend to make it harder to investigate the area. The echelons each have names, based on how dark it seems to the person who goes further. No one knows who named them because nearly everything, including the information we had, on this planet got wiped from the planet shearing from its star.
Thema is the top layer. The barren wastelands, covered in rock and sometimes hard ice; it consists of zero lifeforms and little to no oxygen in the shattered atmosphere.
Altum is the layer where life can start forming. Plants started to grow, but never grew any more due to lack of enough oxygen. Creatures were first birthed from the shed cells of the plants, and started to evolve and adapt to the environment around them.
Caligo is the first sign of darkness, being slightly dim even with the brightest light. Even though the pressure starts to increase, the plant life increased along with the creatures becoming stronger.
