The benches are lit, the reactor is humming, and seven very different companions have finally taken their places. Welcome to the first stable release of Codex Pets: a small, inspectable workshop full of personality, careful animation, and packages you can actually look inside.
Meet the lab
- Bella holds the central truth console. Composed, precise, and gently sceptical, the 1 True Source prefers deterministic systems and clean evidence over theatre.
- AetherWing patrols overhead. She is a flight-first runtime sentinel for architectural discipline, early drift detection, and behaviour grounded in runtime truth.
- AetherCore keeps the continuity engine turning. Measured and dependable, it keeps decisions traceable and hidden drift visible.
- AetherMite works the diagnostics bench. Curious, inventive, and keen-eyed, it notices tiny inconsistencies and favours small, explainable improvements.
- Aetherbite brings energy to the systems bench. This resolute bio-digital tinkerer observes carefully, explains the change, and improves the smallest useful thing first.
- Calian isolates the decisive fault. Calm and tactical under pressure, she separates signal from noise and restores deliberate control.
- Scarlet drives the correction to closure. Poised and vigilant, she traces drift across the execution path and follows through until the result is verified.
What ships in V1
- Seven validated v2 pet packages, each with an exact
1536 × 2288RGBA WebP atlas, nine standard animation rows, two look-direction rows, and 16 directional poses. - Animated previews rendered from the current validated atlases—not stand-ins or redrawn approximations.
- One-click HTTPS installer pages for every pet, with direct
pet.jsonandspritesheet.webppackage links as a practical fallback. - Inspectable QA evidence: contact sheets, look-direction sheets, sanitized validation summaries, and recorded SHA-256 checksums.
- A responsive public catalogue with equal treatment for every companion, clear package links, and contribution routes for the next one.
- An independent community project with no vendor branding or implied official affiliation.
Install a companion
- Open the Codex Pets catalogue.
- Choose a companion and select Install. The HTTPS installer hands off to the desktop app and keeps direct package links available if the handoff is unavailable.
- In the app, open Settings → Pets, select the pet, then enter
/petor choose Wake Pet from the command menu.
If you use the manual package fallback, keep pet.json and spritesheet.webp together in the same local pet directory, then refresh Settings → Pets before selecting the pet.
Integrity, in plain English
These are real, reviewed atlases with public hashes and QA you can inspect. The release header also composites the real tracked preview frames for all seven pets. Nothing here invents hidden runtime powers: choosing a pet changes your companion's appearance, not how tasks are completed.
Pick the companion that feels like yours. If the one you want does not exist yet, bring a pet to the lab—an idea, a piece of character art, or a complete package is enough to start.
