Dither Studio 1.0.0

The first public MIT-licensed release of Dither Studio: a local-first image-dithering editor for the browser and macOS Apple Silicon.

  • 41 independent algorithm choices, four rendering modes, palette extraction/editing, and live split comparison.
  • Full-resolution PNG, grayscale masks, separated ink layers, batch ZIPs, and portable JSON settings.
  • No account, Photoshop installation, or cloud service is required for local editing.

Download or run from source

Download Dither-Studio-1.0.0-macos-arm64.zip for macOS Apple Silicon. Verify it against SHA256SUMS.txt before extracting. The app is unsigned and not notarized; managed systems may refuse it. The browser/source edition is an alternative. Windows, Linux, and Intel Mac binaries are not included.

See the README quickstart for Node 22 and browser setup. npm test builds the web assets and runs all 19 tests. Docker self-hosting instructions are included.

Verification and limits

Linux tests and macOS packaging are checked by GitHub CI. Local verification also covered the Docker container, native exports, independent PNG metadata checks, and exact recomposition of separated ink layers. Source history and the extracted app archive passed Gitleaks scans. See docs/release-verification.md for scope and limitations.

The optional Supabase adapter is experimental; live authenticated storage and cross-user isolation are not certified by this release. Desktop builds work offline. No public image-processing API, PSD export, or native video export is included.

Inspired by Dithertone Pro, with independent code and original demo artwork. This project is unaffiliated and does not claim proprietary algorithm equivalence or pixel-identical output. Dependencies retain their own licenses; notices are bundled.
