Relay v0.2.0
More model services, a calmer look and a sidebar you can collapse.
What changed
- More model services: OpenAI (the ChatGPT API), Google Gemini, Groq, Mistral, xAI (Grok), DeepSeek, or any OpenAI-compatible address, next to the Anthropic API key and Ollama. Pick one under Account > Model service. Each service has its own key (stored encrypted with your Keychain), an editable model name and a Test button. The OpenAI API is billed separately from a ChatGPT subscription.
- Calmer look: a neutral gray interface with one indigo accent. Each page only tints the soft glow at the top and bottom of the window and the selected sidebar item.
- Collapsible sidebar: hide it to the left from the top bar, or with ⌘, so the page gets the whole window. Relay remembers the choice.
- Website, README, diagram, charts and screenshots updated.
Requirements
macOS 26 or later. Apple Silicon (arm64) and Intel (x64) builds are attached below.
Install
Download the .dmg for your Mac and drag Relay to Applications. It is not notarized, so the first time, right-click Relay and choose Open, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Relay.app. You will approve Microphone, Accessibility, Screen Recording and Input Monitoring once.
Models and sign-in
No API key by default: Relay runs your own Claude Code, signed in to your Claude plan (Pro or Max). Relay never sees your password. Relay is an independent project, not made or endorsed by Anthropic, and Anthropic's rules for third-party apps can change; if they do, an API key (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, Mistral, xAI, DeepSeek or any OpenAI-compatible address) or a local Ollama model keeps Relay working. ChatGPT plans are not supported (use an OpenAI API key).
Testing status
136 unit tests pass. Real calls to the new model services (OpenAI, Gemini, Groq, Mistral, xAI, DeepSeek) were not made: they are covered by tests with fake servers, so check the model name with the Test button. Live microphone dictation, music control, permission prompts and AppleScript against every app have only been tried by hand. If something fails, open an issue with what History > Actions shows.

Relay v0.1.1
A colour update, plus a website for Relay.
What changed
- New colourful app icon and in-app logo. The interface accent colour is now the logo's indigo.
- Website: https://serjdmitri.github.io/Relay/
- README now has screenshots, a diagram and charts.
- No change to how the app signs in or picks a model.
Models
Use an Anthropic API key or a local Ollama model. Signing in with a Claude account is meant for your own use on your own Mac: Anthropic does not allow third-party apps to offer claude.ai login to others, so if you share a build, use an API key or Ollama.
Testing status
129 unit tests pass. Live microphone dictation end to end, music control, permission prompts and AppleScript against every app have only been tried by hand. If something fails, open an issue with what History > Actions shows.

Relay v0.1.0
First public version of Relay, a menu bar Mac assistant that acts on spoken requests.
What it does
- Hold or tap Right Option and talk: Relay opens apps, writes notes and reminders, reads your calendar, clicks through interfaces, drives Firefox and answers from the web.
- Right Command is dictation: your words are typed where the cursor is. Speech recognition is on-device (Apple SpeechAnalyzer), so no separate dictation app is needed. Talkify still works too, since the Ask box (
Option+T) is a normal text field. - Instant commands (timers, music, volume, notes, reminders, open apps) run in about a third of a second without a model call.
- Runs on Claude (your own signed-in Claude Code, an API key, or automatic Haiku/Sonnet routing) or a local Ollama model.
- Asks for confirmation before sending messages, trashing files, running shell commands or running destructive-looking AppleScript.
Requirements
macOS 26 or later. Dictation and the glass pill use new macOS 26 APIs.
Install
Download the .dmg below (arm64 for Apple Silicon, x64 for Intel) and drag Relay to Applications. It is not notarized, so the first time, right-click Relay and choose Open, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Relay.app. You will approve Microphone, Accessibility, Screen Recording and Input Monitoring once.
Or build from source: see the README.
Claude account sign-in
Signing in with a Claude account is meant for your own use on your own Mac. Anthropic does not allow third-party apps to offer claude.ai login to others, so if you share a build, use an API key or Ollama.
Testing status
- 129 unit tests pass. The dictation helper was run on real generated speech, and the Claude runner on real tool calls through a signed-in
claude. - Live microphone dictation end to end, music control, permission prompts and AppleScript against every app have only been tried by hand. If something fails, open an issue with what History > Actions shows.
