qBit NeoRS 0.2.3

qBittorrent 5.2.4 ported to a Rust core built around the rqbit engine (librqbit),
with a native SwiftUI interface. Website: neors.lex.mk
Try the new Web UI in your browser: neors.lex.mk/web-ui

What's new

  • Updates inside the app: qBit NeoRS now finds new versions on GitHub and
installs them when you quit. Every update is signed, and the app refuses a download
whose signature doesn't match. Check right away with qBit NeoRS → Check for
    Updates…
, or turn the checks off with Check for program updates in
Settings → General. Install this version by hand; later ones arrive by themselves.
  • Paste where it belongs (⌘V): in the Trackers tab, a copied list of trackers
joins the torrent (blank lines start new tiers). In the Peers tab, IP:port lines
become peers. In the transfer list, magnet links, torrent URLs and copied .torrent
files are added, and a list of trackers or peers goes to the selected torrents.
  • Tracker lists from a URL or a file: Add trackers now downloads the list from
its µTorrent compatible list URL, and both Add trackers and Edit trackers can load
a list from a URL or a text file.
  • Fixed: a magnet link still fetching its metadata showed every tracker as "Not
contacted yet". The Trackers tab now shows how each one answers, and trackers you
add meanwhile join the search right away.
  • Fixed: an Add Torrent window opened from a magnet link in the browser could end up
    behind the main window.
  • Fixed: tracker URLs like RuTracker's …/ann copied along with a magnet were
    added as torrent downloads.

Known issue

Desktop widgets need a build signed with a developer team, so in these downloads
they say the app isn't running. The menu bar, Dock badge and everything else work.

Requirements

  • macOS 27 or later
  • A Mac with Apple silicon (arm64)
  • Search plugins need Python 3

Install

  1. Download qBit-NeoRS-0.2.3-arm64.zip and double-click it.
  2. Drag qBit NeoRS to your Applications folder.

This build is not notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks it the first time. Try to
open it once, close the warning, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
and click Open Anyway next to the message about qBit NeoRS. Or run once in
Terminal:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/qBit NeoRS.app"

qBit NeoRS 0.2.2

qBittorrent 5.2.4 ported to a Rust core built around the rqbit engine (librqbit),
with a native SwiftUI interface. Website: neors.lex.mk
Try the new Web UI in your browser: neors.lex.mk/web-ui

What's new

  • Parsed names in the Web UI: the list and cards show the same clean titles,
content icons and colored chips (resolution, year, codec and so on) as the Mac app,
using your own name rules and parsing settings. The rule editor marks rules that
use regex syntax browsers can't run.
  • Faster start with many torrents: the app remembers each file's size and
modification time, so on launch it only rechecks files that changed on disk
instead of sampling pieces of every torrent.
  • Safer resume: a sampled piece with a wrong hash now throws away the saved
progress and rechecks the torrent. Before, corrupted data could pass as complete.
  • Less overhead per peer: messages to a peer go out in one socket write, and
block requests are sent in batches.
  • Calmer DHT: seeding torrents and downloads with enough peers are looked up
every 15 minutes instead of every minute. Downloads short of peers keep the
1-minute pace, and Force Reannounce now announces on the DHT too.
  • Fixed: a peer whose connection fell behind could miss our "have" messages and
never learn it could download those pieces from us.
  • Fixed (Web UI): the status was hard to read in a selected row, and cards lost
their status line in a narrow window.

qBit NeoRS 0.2.1

qBittorrent 5.2.4 ported to a Rust core built around the rqbit engine (librqbit),
with a native SwiftUI interface. Website: neors.lex.mk

What's new

  • A new Web UI, built for this app: the look of the Mac app in the browser
(light and dark, sidebar, list and cards, details with General, Trackers, Peers
and Files), and a phone layout with a tab bar, bottom sheets and large tap targets.
It covers transfers, adding torrents, search and the RSS reader, weighs about
40 KB compressed with no frameworks, and runs under a strict Content-Security-Policy.
The Web API and tools like FlexGet work as before; qBittorrent's classic Web UI can
still be used through the alternative Web UI setting. Not in it yet: RSS
auto-downloading rules, the torrent creator, the log, statistics, web seed editing
    and the speed graph.
  • A more compact General tab: a summary strip at the top (state, progress,
speeds with averages, ETA, ratio, seeds and peers), slimmer bars, and the rest in
groups that reflow with the panel's width. Save path and hashes truncate in the
middle, with Show in Finder and Copy buttons.
  • Sort By in the toolbar, the View menu and the ⌘K palette, so the cards view
can be sorted too. It shares its order with the list's column headers, and the
    List/Cards switch stays in place.
  • Settings search finds everything: by our labels, by qBittorrent's own wording
(such as "Torrent Queueing"), and by config key (queueing_enabled,
Appearance/ColorScheme, qBittorrent.ini keys), typed in full, in part or with
spaces. English labels also match when the app is in Russian.
  • The ⌘K palette uses regular Liquid Glass, so it stays readable with reduced
    transparency.
  • Fixed: the sidebar button showed a white icon in Customize Toolbar.

qBit NeoRS 0.2.0

qBittorrent 5.2.4 ported to a Rust core built around the rqbit engine (librqbit),
with a native SwiftUI interface. Website: neors.lex.mk

What's new

  • Search, RSS and the log live in the main window, like the sections of Apple
Music: Search sits at the top of the sidebar, your RSS feeds and folders get a
sidebar section of their own (with their context menus), and the execution log
is a tab of the bottom panel next to Speed that can expand to the whole window.
The separate Search, RSS and Log windows are gone.
  • One search field for everything: on the transfer list its magnifier menu
filters by name, save path or tracker, or searches your installed plugins for
what you typed. ⌘F focuses it.
  • Hide sidebar sections you don't use, such as Trackers, from their context
menu; View › Sidebar Sections brings them back.
  • Customizable toolbar (View › Customize Toolbar…), with Force Start, Force
Recheck and Alternative Speed Limits available as extra items.
  • Fit columns to their content: double-click a column divider in the list
header, or ⌥-click to fit all columns.
  • Rename tags from Edit Tag…: the new name moves to every torrent, keeping its
    icon and color.
  • External IP detection: the address is now voted on like libtorrent does,
from the router (NAT-PMP and UPnP), trackers and peers.
  • The ⌘K palette uses the clearest Liquid Glass; its "More Actions" hint only
shows where there are more actions.
  • The Torrent widget shows the parsed title and tags on a colorful background.
  • Fixed: the Advanced settings pane cut off its content when advanced settings
    were hidden.

@sermelipharo sermelipharo released this 19 Oct 08:53

qBit NeoRS 0.1.0

The first public build of qBit NeoRS: qBittorrent 5.2.4 for macOS, ported to a
Rust core built around the rqbit engine (librqbit), with a native SwiftUI
interface. Website: neors.lex.mk

Highlights

  • qBittorrent 5.2.4's feature set: transfer list with every column, filters,
categories and tags, queueing, share limits, speed limits and scheduler, RSS
reader and automatic downloader, search plugins, torrent creator, execution log,
statistics, all preferences, and the WebAPI v2 with qBittorrent's own Web UI.
  • Cards and list views (⌘1 / ⌘2). Names are split into a semibold title and
release details, shown as color-coded tags on the cards, with an icon for the
    kind of content.
  • Import from qBittorrent 5.x or the Transmission app for macOS: File > Import
from qBittorrent… / Import from Transmission…. The other app's files are only
    read, never changed.
  • A Mac interface shared with qBittorrent Neo: filters sidebar and details tabs,
Add Torrent window, Settings with toolbar panes and search, ⌘K command palette,
menu bar item with speeds and counts, Dock speed badge, notifications, password
    lock, light and dark appearance.
  • One small process: a compact Rust engine, data synchronised to the UI as diffs.

qBit NeoRS is younger and less tested than
qBittorrent Neo, which runs
qBittorrent's own engine under the same interface.
