Hold down key until released

I have the side buttons on my mouse mapped to page up/down which works fine.

When I keep the buttons pressed, I want it to behave as if the page up/down key has been held down.

I tried
if_tap(key(KEY_PAGEUP), hold_keys(KEY_PAGEUP), 500)
but that doesn't appear to have the intended effect

For a key that stays down while the mouse side button is held, put this in that button's Output field:

hold_keys(KEY_PAGEUP)

Use KEY_PAGEDOWN for the other button. hold_keys sends the key-down event when you press the mouse button and the key-up event when you release it; I checked that event sequence with the current parser. if_tap(...) adds a tap-versus-hold decision that you do not need for this behavior. Whether repeated page movement occurs while PageUp is down depends on the application and desktop's key-repeat handling. The macro guide describes hold_keys as holding a key until the mapped input is released.
